0. phoneArena posted on 05 Sep 2013, 12:12

One is nearly at the end of its product cycle, while the other is just embarking on its journey very soon – it’s our first look between the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Apple iPhone 5. Samsung surely made headlines after announcing its latest phablet, and after the festivities of yesterday’s...

idk, it seems OK to me. It didnt look like he was taking sides and if he was, it was the note 3's in most places while pointing out that i5 isnt THAT bad.
P.S. How many times are we gonna see the i5 raped by every new phone turn by turn? it seems pointless to do an i5 comparison to me, just sayin

Read it again.. and look for how the tone of the whole article is..

To me anyway, it's clearly a piece written to coddle the iPhone.. It's ok little iPhone.. you're still good enough! Yes, the Note 3 has "XX" or "YY".. but you still are good to! Don't cry!

I do agree with you... These 2 phones have NO business being in a direct comparison

even worse, is John V. the most unbiased PA writer .I would've expected this from Ray or Michael but... very disappointed of John.

These phones should not be compared. You are comparing the newest and most powerful smartphone in the world vs the year old iPhone 5. The galaxy s3 beat the iPhone 5. Sorry but this is not worth watching who in the world would buy an iPhone over this.

They are comparing the newest and most powerful phablet against a phone 1 year old that only has a 4" screen is more accurate. Can't even believe they bothered with this comparison, there's so many other phablets that could have been put against each other.

This was one of my thoughts also. The Note is in a different class of phone or phablet. One is a large phone, one is not. These are two phones that appeal to two different types of people.

It's a talking point of there's to go after a phone that uses plastic (Samsung more aggressively)

I wouldn't exactly call the iPhone 5 premium when it scratches, chips and blemishes very easily. They don't know how to be objective and leave their own subjective points of view out of an article, rather than just being comparative with their offerings and functional capabilities.

A BMW can scratch relatively easy and yet it's premium. IPhone 5 is still the better phone.

Only if you consider note 3 as a phablet.
iPhone 5 is great device but note 3 wins this fight. May be iPhone 5s comes par with note 3 but not the iPhone 5

but iPhone 5 still can be better phone for you if you dislike Android and if iPhone satisfy your needs
it's just a matter of personal preference.

If BMW came out with body panels made of an alternative material such as plastic, would you suddenly cry that the car is garbage and clearly not premium?

Sorry, but premium is not measured by build quality alone.. it's the entire experience and in that area Apple has been matched and passed by.

I didn't think it was an overly biased article. He gave a few points to each.

However, the writing, sentence structure, etc...were atrocious. Now I'm going to assume the the author speaks English as a second language, and it's admirable that he speaks more than one language , but isn't there any editorial process at PA?

Yeah, just wait until that iPhone 5S is unveiled, they'll devote 10 pages of content to the one article summarizing the new model and then Copy & Paste everything from the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4S' review comparisons, respectively. And, if that's not enough, they'll post 100 articles in 3 days about how miraculously marvelous the iPhone 5S is [in their opinion] … Just wait!

Ladies and gentleman: I give you the dumbest, most irrelevant comparison of 2013

Really though... maybe it's just me but it's almost at the point where I don't feel that iPhones are even at the same level of the more recent Android flagships, and ESPECIALLY not comparable to a phablet.

I couldn't agree more!

I've found myself no longer considering it the ultimate phone that all others are measured against.. it's just one of a pack of phones for the mid range user.

Definitely not at the top tier for me.

Also.. What camera was used to take these pics? Generally speaking, when trying to show off a phone, using razor thin depth of field is not such a good idea. Fail.

The note 3 is great n all, but the back is hideous. It looks like a BBall shoe. Anyways it wins this from a sheer specs comparison. I'm keeping my note 2 though, and copping a 5S.

I gotta agree with that, the stitching affect looks off. If I pick one of these up, first thing I'm doing (even before pulling the trigger on this) is Google a new backing for it, preferably a metal one.

In comparison, the original N7 backing was the best. Miss that on the newer version, the slight change makes it more slick to hold, not like how the older backing had that stay in place hold feel to it.

That's not the only thing you're probably "copping" - what's wrong with Basketball?? Don't tell me you can't "Jump"??

for less than $10 you can have any kind of back you want on the note 3 from Amazon.

That's good to know Ted, thanx for the info. I'm not a basher, you know that. I'm simply stating my opinion...I do not like the stitched leathery back. They shoulda followed the s4 back, which is gorgeous.

Cmon.. i never thought that IPHONE 5 IS THE TOP CONTENDER AND STILL UNBEATEN BY THE 1080P FLAGSHIPS OF ANDROID.. I would even want to have a Note2, S3, One X, Xperia TX, HTC Butterfly, G Pro etc than ip5! And as i remember, Gs4 held to be the best camera in many comparisons here in PA, just recently been outclassed by the mighty G2.

I'd like to make a recommendation to the writers/reviewers of PA...

I'm waiting for one of these phone info/review sites to take a different approach to reviewing cell phones. I REALLY am not interested in (& very tired of) reading phone reviews or phone comparisons by reviewers who believe the phone they're reviewing or comparing is inferior to their own phone/OS of choice...even if they happen to be right (which is not typically the case here at PA).

Here's what I AM interested in: I'd like to know what an Android user "likes" or "dislikes" about a new Android phone. Or, what a phablet (a term I still can't stand to use) user "likes" or "dislikes" about the Note III, or HTC One Max, etc. Or, what an iphone user "likes" or "dislikes" about the new iphone iteration. THEN what would be great is to read a dialogue/discussion between an Android user and an iphone user, &/or BB user, &/or Windows Phone user, etc discussing what they "like" and "dislike" about the new phone they're reviewing/comparing. At that point, any bias would be expected, and perhaps even appropriate...not to mention "balanced". I like the idea of people reviewing phones who wouldn't normally go for said phone. But, I'd also like to hear from those who WOULD go for said phone.

In short, consider taking a "multiple reviewers with multiple preferences discussion" approach to reviewing/comparing phones. Merely reading why a [enter cell phone make/model/OS of preference here] user holds the non-objective opinion that his year old phone can still contend with a brand new offering is so damn tired.

Just my $0.02

P.S. Note III FTW by TKO ;^{D>
