Samsung Galaxy A40 leaks out with dual-cameras and Infinity-U display

Hours after Samsung confirmed an event for early April and announced the Galaxy A20, the upcoming Galaxy A40 has leaked out entirely in a set of press renders.

An Infinity-U display paired with a big battery

Following in the footsteps of both the Galaxy A30 and Galaxy A50, this new model has been equipped with a Super AMOLED Infinity-U display. Once again, it’s accompanied by minimal side bezels, a reduce chin, and a tiny notch above the panel. However, this time around Samsung has reduced the diagonal from 6.4-inches to 5.9-inches.

According to a leaked spec sheet, the slightly smaller display will be accompanied by a 3,100mAh battery. The device will need to be tested once released, but this combination should translate into pretty average battery life results. Fortunately enough, the smartphone looks set to support Adaptive Fast Charging.

As with most of Samsung’s 2019 smartphones, the Galaxy A40 should also ship with Android 9 Pie and One UI straight out of the box.

Two rear cameras, a glossy plastic rear, and a headphone jack

Like its recently-announced siblings, the Galaxy A40 features a rear panel carved out of glossy plastic – Samsung likes to call this a ‘glasstic’ finish nowadays. This panel is home to a rear-facing fingerprint scanner and a dual-camera setup which essentially creates a design not too dissimilar to that of the Galaxy A30.

In the camera department, the Samsung Galaxy A40 borrows sensors from both its cheaper and more expensive sibling. Over on the rear, Samsung has fitted the 16-megapixel primary sensor found on the Galaxy A30. The latter's 5-megapixel wide-angle camera is also present. Up front, the Galaxy A40 borrows the Galaxy A50's 25-megapixel snapper for all the selfie fanatics out there.

Other external features include a volume rocker and power button along the right side of the frame. Additionally, the bottom of the device is home to a speaker, a USB Type-C port, and the 3.5mm headphone jack which itself is gradually disappearing from competing devices.

Decent performance for the price

Despite expectations, the Samsung Galaxy A40 doesn't include the company's own octa-core Exynos 7885 on the inside. Instead, Samsung has chosen the less powerful Exynos 7904 for this device. This chip can also be found inside the Galaxy A30 and, in terms of performance, is comparable to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 636.

According to the leaked information, this processor will be accompanied by a respectable 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage which should be further expandable via microSD cards.

Other features will include support for Bluetooth 5.0, NFC for secure mobile payments, and Always-on Display.

Samsung Galaxy A40 price, release date, availability

As mentioned in the opening of the article, Samsung is holding an event next month. It’ll take place on April 10th and it is here that Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy A40.

Sales of the smartphone should commence fairly immediately, but in order to ensure strong performance in key markets, Samsung might limit availability to a handful of Asian markets such as India at first. European markets should receive the smartphone in late April or early May.

Lastly, on the topic of pricing, a recent leak revealed that the Galaxy A40 will be priced at a very respectable €249 in most European markets. This should make it one of Samsung’s best value-for-money devices but could still mean it'll be a hard recommendation.

Although the Galaxy A40 is shaping up to be a pretty decent device, the smartphone will face some extremely tough competition from Motorola’s Moto G7 which currently stands as one of the best budget offerings out there.
