SNL hits iPhone right where it hurts

SNL hits iPhone right where it hurts
The audience for Saturday Night Live has certainly changed from the early days of the show, Instead of jokes about sex, drugs and rock n' roll, we now see the audience get a hearty laugh from a joke about...cellphones? Of course, since just about everyone knows a person toting around an iPhone-or personally owns one-this joke hits real close to home. With the way things are going in the rivalry between AT&T and Verizon, does this mean we should look forward to Luke Wilson as next week's SNL guest host?

My biggest problem with ATT is how bad they rape me on price. Sure T-Mobile's service coverage isn't that great, but their customer service is amazing and I pay pennies (compared to ATT) for my plan since I've been with them a long time.

has the iphone found a way to cure cancer yet? please, the iphone did not lead to the creation of another device. That is pretty disingenous and naive, at best, to think that the iphone is the reason phones like the Droid, Eris, Hero, and others exist. I woudl be the first to admit the iphone was a game changer and innovator, but contrary to you fanboy's beliefs, Apple is not the only innovator. If any manufacturer is credited with making Smartphones mainstream, it would be RIM. I personally don't like BlackBerrys but if you think about the history of cell phones and when smartphones/data really started taking off, it was because of RIM and the popularity of BlackBerry devices from 2003 to 2007. The iphone is an obsolete phone now considering everything else that is available now. Its on an inferior network and by the time Apple ends their exclusivity agreement with AT&T, the iphone will become a 2nd-rate device.

Oh and this time magazine of the year stuff: yay...someone else finally took it. iPhone had the title too. Congrats a newcomer took the title that's almost always reserved for newcomers. Real achievement there. Now if the iPhone never received it then u have something to brag about.

To clever---- Currently running email, texting, the web, iMusic ( not an Apple product ), Google Maps, and streaming video while on speakerphone on the Droid. Hmmmm. Of course the Droid has shortcomings in Europe...it's not a global phone and wasn't meant to be. What you fail to see is that Droid is just a label of Motorola. I am really a big fan of the Android OS, which is far superior to Apple. The funniest thing with YOUR post is you claim Verizon only touts their network. Well DUHHHHHH!!!!! You can shout to the highest mountains about the iPhone --- it won't mean a damn thing without coverage. Did you forget that? It's a damn PHONE!!!! But I'm pretty sure using THAT dumb ass argument will fly over well with business users who need that "coverage". Oh, and that CRAPPY battery life you spoke of? Have you been hiding under a rock??? That is the iPhone's biggest pet peeve....not being able to sustain a significant amount of battery life because of it being a data hog. It has the worst battery rating of any GSM phone out there (even worse than WinMo devices). But I will admit...GSM batteries DO last longer than CDMA batteries. The reason is that CDMA networks are designed to handle a lot more calls, hence the lower battery life. GSM batteries to last forever but they have MORE ( and I do mean MORE ) dropped calls. Suck on THAT!!!

Funniest shit here is that the biggest knock the droid fanboys have is the lack of vzw quality coverage for the iPhone. I happen to be happy with my coverage. But f@ck the network wars. If u want the real truth here look to Europe. The iPhone 3Gs has several carriers with vzw level saturation. And the new competitor is the motorola milestone(or droid) the iPhone there has no AT&T shortcomings. So the service is better or comperable. What do u have now? Dated os? Still more fluid than android, except multitasking on 3rd party apps it's more capable. And has a faster processor, capable of faster data speeds. And faster software. Oh let's not over look that the iPhone does run it's first party app in the background. thats more than just 6 at a time. Safari can stream music while u text or use other apps, iPod app can play music while in other app, mail maps, and all the other apps don't quit when closed. Only 3rd party apps. Oh and my last point for now. The droid does have a replaceable battery but it needs it. As long as the crappy construction doesn't force u to lose the cover, the battery is rated for almost half of the iPhone 3Gs talk time. Suck on that fanboys.

Luke Wilson played in the movie "Idiocracy". He should have used that name for his AT&T commercials. Let's take a look: Quote: You can surf the web and talk on the phone at the same time. Verizon phones can't do that. Fact: Yes, but only in AT&T's 3G coverage areas. Good luck with that. And the Droid can INDEED surf the web and conversate simultaneously. Quote: AT&T has the most popular phone in America. Fact: Time Magazine's Gadget of the Year? You guessed it: The Droid. The iPhone was demoted to 4th. Quote: AT&T has the fastest 3G network. Fact: Again, true....but WHERE THE HELL IS THE 3G??? Seriously Luke, throwing postcards on places on the map that even Metro PCS has coverage was lame. It's like walking past a person on the street and saying, "Hey you, I can breathe AIR. How bout you?". AT&T should have clued Luke in a little bit about technology. "Verizon makes a big deal about maps.." he says. NO...Verizon makes a big deal about AT&T horrible 3G coverage. So Luke, my advice to you: Concentrate on making better movies than Idiocracy.

"It's not useful because you probably never used it".... Is this the same guy who said "Most of our imports come from other counties"?

ok so i might as well get my 2 cents in here before i sober up ... the iphone is what it is because of apple ... apple is if anything a marketing genius and know how to market anything to anybody ... for christ sake they could market cancer and make it popular ... at that i do not hate apple ... i only buy apple computers because well lets face it there are WAY too many problems with windows ... and i will allways use an ipod because its just easy and well more fun ... as for the iphone ... fuck it ... thats why i have an ipod touch (and ive had every ipod since the FIRST ONE EVER MADE!) the iphone has turned into every other apple product as a "coolness" product and can't/can do anything and everything anyother smartphone can do ... now i am a 3 year running BLACKBERRY user who has had an iphone 3g and a few other phones before i got my droid eris ... but I have been following android since it first came out and i have to say I LOVE IT STILL ... now personally i know that no matter what any other platform will "beat" the iphone just because of apple and their marketing team ... but goddamn if google doesn't know what their doing ... and i am going to say this right now so fuck everyone else ... ANDROID is the operating system of the future ... so there we are and those are my opinions ... oh and plus the iphone will never really find out its full potential in America until it leaves at&t and goes to other services ... u people on t-mo with jailbroken iphones know what i mean ... but for those that don't ... a phone on only one service is extremely restricted and well useless ... (i am NOT gonna get into at&t vs. verizon) and YES cdma is facing obsoleation ... and god i miss the days of exchanging sim cards ... but i digress ... there we go! from someone who has seen and done most all in the cellphone world ... take it as you will and i am realllllyyy looking forward to the comments on this ... so lets see it ... caus well lets face it its the truth and hopefully everyone will hate this 'cause thats how ive known ive done my job!

I find these tech blogs hilarious! No one cares if the Droid is better specs, or if the Droid does this better or the Droid does that better. News flash, I'm a sales rep at Tmo and I don't see anyone coming in asking for a DROID they come in asking for an Iphone. It's not about the specs anymore, it's about the NAME. The Iphone has become a fad, and it will take more then the DROID to break that fad. Fact is the Ipod came out 2002ish and still no music player has been able to break that fad, even if the Zune is a better music player.

True story. Even people like my grandmother know what an iPod is, but don't have the first clue what a Zune is. I couldn't agree more with your comment. I think even more than a fad, the iPhone is cemented into general pop culture, and agree, that that is why it will remain a veritable King of cellphones. Specs or no specs, the iPhone has brand/name recognition that rings true with everyone that has/had/heard of Apple or the iPod line.

i currently own the Droid, but will admit that the I-phone is a great device It made smart phones and touchscreen phones part of the pop culture vocabulary and made an industry out of phone apps. Here's the problem; You can't rest on your laurels. Let's be honest, the 3Gs is not a revolutionary device, it didn't change the way we looked at phones like the original I-phone did. In fact, i feel bad for anyone that fell for the pathetic money grab called the 3Gs. All they did was give consumers features that bottom basement phones had been running for years. I-phone may still be the king of the hill, but if the next version of it isn't a groundbreaking, revolutionary restart that gets millions excited all over again, the I-phone will be relegated to Razr status within a few years. But watch apple crap out another I-phone with more memory and a different color back plate, and all of you will buy it up like lemmings. History making devices are great, but if you don't evovle and stay multiple steps ahead of the competition, you will be history sooner than later. I'm sure there's an app that confirms it. So please Apple, prove me wrong, force me to eat my words and i'll openly and admiringly admit defeat. But do it before the Android line makes me say "I-what?"

The droid will never get the sales or be as popular as the iphone. It hurts to hear the truth.

its true but the fact is the iphone is only sold so well is because its a simple device. the droid is more complicated with more features. id rather have a complicated, fast, feature full phone than a phone that has one screen and the ability to "customize the position of your icons"... eh at&t is good at one thing, brainwashing.

These arguments are plain old tired and hearing them over and over again are tiring. If SNL makes a joke about something it usually is something that is prevalent in current events. It was a joke and is funny. People who make the exclusivity arguements don't know history. Cingular had the RAZR first and now ATT the iPhone. They both are industry changing devices and both carrier and manufactuer were able to benefit due to the relationship. Could've and what ifs don't mean anything other than meaningless talk about what is not the documented truth. VZW has the ENVY(1,2, and 3), it would be a dumb arguement to say they would've survived without it.

they could have survived without the env. its not their biggest phone line... and its not ENVY its enV

I think that was point. What is their most popular phone? The point is they have an exclusive phone and if they didn't have it they would be fine. Thanks for the correction on enV.

their most popular phone is the droid.... i would also like to point out that if the iphone wasnt exclusive apple would be making millions more than current. ugh.

FTW..Droid vs Iphone 3gS performance are identical!..plus iphone has some iphone ONLY apps which droid DOESNT n the programs that Droid gets Iphone already has or will get..rofl!!

uhm you just mixed a compliment with a bash. the fact that iphone has iphone only apps is rediculous because that means you cant use them on an ipod touch. the droid has the android app store which works on any phone operating android.

Well we all know what he meant. And because the Android phones all have different screen resolutions, some games may look a little distorted since there are so many different Android screen sizes. Plus there's so many compatability issues. Some games will work beautifully on one Androis handset while it may not work at all on another.

so the programs the droid doesn't have that the iphone has the droid won't get, but the proframs the droid does have that the iphone doesn't the iphone will get? that's your arguement. And the free google nav... umm the iphone has that? umm no, a better network the iphone has? um no, and I'm pretty sure the droid market area is growing faster than the iphone market area right now and about 70% of the droids market is free. youc an't say that for the iphone. Your comment makes no sense and everyone who has read it is dumber for it. I reward you no ponits and may god have mercy on your soul.

you guys do realize that the moto droid wouldnt exist without the iphone right? Iv played with it too and its nothing compared to iphone's fluidity. Droid is competition for a 2G iphone...not an iphone 3gs. Bash all u want but there is a reason every phone company is finally waking up and all of a sudden releasing all of these phone with touchscreens. Oh and if verizon had the opportunity, it would take the iphone in a second...how come? Droid is great for those who dont want a phone everyone has but thats about it. BTW...im a Nokia n900 user and an x iphone 3gs user.

please dont ever comment on the internet again. the iphone 3gs couldnt even compete with a 2g phone considering that it cant make a phone call. and saying the droid is competition for a 2g phone is like saying oprah can be compared to a college student.

lol simply stating it from a non bias view instead of hating on a phone that did revolutionize the industry. remember, i am using a nokia n900 now (great phone btw). like i said it can b more effectively compared to a 2G. yes the phone has severe issues with reception in areas but i never had an issue. i took an honest look at the droid but it wasnt nearly as good as the hype. keyboard sux, its slow and the camera is far shittier than the iphone (once again, more comparable to the 2G minus the flash) i guess the little guys always wanna piece of the big guy.
