Smartwatches cover the gamut when it comes to price. Some can be found in the ultra-premium segment of the market, easily costing over $400 at times, but others can be fetched at lower prices under $200. That’s still a significant sum, which is why fitness trackers can have an appeal to consumers. One of them that you may be interested in is the $100 priced Runtopia S1 Smart GPS Sports Watch!

At first glance checking out, we had this impression that it was a premium constructed watch. However, that wasn’t the case the more we got to checking it out up close and personal. The screws around the metallic looking bezel gives off the impression that it’s a premium watch of some kind, but those sentiments quickly wear off because of the lightweight feel of the Runtopia S1 and its plastic underside. Despite that, the overall styling is still favorable – more so when it features a 3 ATM water resistant construction.

The display here is just an ordinary black and white touchscreen LCD display. Yes, it looks bland and generic, but visibility is no problem under direct sunlight. In the dark, the indiglo-like backlighting helps to illuminate it. On the right side of the watch are two physical buttons, one for scrolling through the menus and the other acting as a back function. Rounding things out, it features a heart rate sensor, removable straps, and a proprietary magnetic charging cable.

As the name implies, this watch is primarily targeting runners because of its GPS + GLONASS dual-positioning system for better pinpoint accuracy and the various running exercise modes it offers. The Android app we downloaded seemed pretty comprehensive, offering a wide array of running modes. There’s also the option to have coaching instructions as well, if you need that kind of motivation when running. Even though it’s not technically classified as a smartwatch, it still packs several useful features like a compass, message & call notifications, alarm clock, and timer.

One of the biggest advantages of the Runtopia S1 is its battery life rating, which is reported to last upwards of around 25 on standby mode with the GPS turned off – or about 2 full marathons with the GPS turned on. For some people, they’ll appreciate the longevity of the battery. All in all, the Runtopia S1 is really meant for people who have a passion for running. The $100 cost of the watch on Amazon right now is pretty affordable on just about any budget, but we have to remind you that there are some newer Wear OS smartwatches priced under $200.
