Look at it like this. If I put 100 50watt light bulbs on a 10x10 board, and 100 on a 20x20 board, will the larger one need more power? The only difference in the S8 and S8 Edge display is the spacing between the pixels.

You are assuming every subpixel is same.

"S7 edge has a good battery life (more than 4 hr SOT)" If you're talking of the Exynos version, then it's over 10 hr SOT. Heck, the Snapdragon version is over 7 hrs... 4hrs is actually bad battery life, so 4hrs SOT can't be used a benchmark for good battery life... Just saying.

Its depend what you do with it. My friend S7 edge die after a bit less than 4 hours of heavy gaming. My LG G5 die a bit over 3 hours of heavy gaming ( same game on both device with identical setting ) So its really depend what you do with your phone. Webbrowsing and social media then yes the Exynos really shine on those.

I do hate curved screens. It's bad to hold and breaks easily.

Sammy should give consumer choice. Flat and edges. Do not just dictate the rules of the game.

The edged screen is the winning card for the vast majority of buyers, so Samsung ditched the flat screen and went full on the curve screen this year. No issues with that to me.

Yes S7 only sold 15 million device in 2016 so its really just a niche product right trojan_horse? Seriously ppl are delusional. Only reason to ditch flat screen model is to justify price hike and you bite at thats like real fanboy.

@marorun Well... The Galaxy S7 edge sold more than the flat-screen S7 did... but there is a display size difference between the S7 and S7 edge which certainly has been a deciding factor for some buyers. Let's the consider a more fair comparison: S6 and S6 edge both had the same display size, yet the S6 edge variant outsold the S6 in roughly a 2:1 ratio. So that concludes that the majority wants the curved edge screens... Those who prefer the flat screens are simply left in the dust. Talk about removal of choice, but can't help it. There is always another choice, though... Buy something else, like the LG G6, since you love LG and crap on Samsung all the time.

Flat > curved. End of story.

44% of those polled here (myself included) want a flat screen variant. That is a pretty high number. And it is showing as preorders on all carriers are not listed as backordered. The above noted, I'd bet a good buck that Samsung does in fact release that flat panel variant.

Jeez. He was wringing out the iPhone. I think maybe if he dried it out good, it'd start working again. Regardless, win for the S8.

A wins a win. I expected the iPhone to do better than it did.

Did you watch his drop test?

46. darkkjedii

Posts: 30905; Member since: Feb 05, 2011

Yep, it was what I expected. S8 stronger on the front than the back. He gave the iPhone the win, even though it stopped working properly.

Yeah, I thought that was strange.

You would think that working properly would be part of the test

S8 should've won.

Seems like a lot of people here are writing off the edges before even trying it. It seems like it full stop works just like a flat screen for all intents and purposes. From my limited hands on with it, I will update if the curves begin to bother me.

Several of those would write it off even with flat versions. They just hate Samsung, and really hate that their devices have been so well reviewed the last several years. Don't get me wrong, I wish Samsung would make flat versions, even though I'd get the curved. More choice is always better. But, I don't get to make those decisions.

Because the iphone doesn't have curved screens yet. They all hated large screens until the iphone 6 plus showed up. The polls will change once Apple "does curved displays right".

I may be the last person who feels this way but I think not having a flat screen option stinks. My fingers always smudge the edge of the screen with curved screens and the covers for them can't offer the protection on the sides they can for a flat screen so they're much more prone to scratching (at least in my experience).
