Report: Sluggish sales lead Apple to continue slashing iPhone production in the current quarter

Apple's shares are taking a little hit this afternoon following a report that sluggish iPhone sales are leading Apple to continue cutting production of its smartphone during the current quarter. During the January-March period, Apple produced 30% fewer iPhone units when compared to the same quarter a year earlier...

No it's not. On the surface it looks like you get more storage with the iPhone then you do with the S7 for the same price. In reality you are getting the smaller model (screen size) of the iPhone with more storage vs the larger model of the S7. If you compare both large models with the similar storage capacity (iPhone 6s Plus vs S7 Edge), the S7 Edge is way cheaper. As a matter of fact, for the price of a 16GB iPhone 6s Plus, you can get a 32GB S7 Edge. Dishonest comparison!

Just because you don't have the money/don't want to pay the price of an iPhone, it doesn't mean the phone should not cost as much. BTW, se is a 2016 phone, not a 3 years old (or do you mean a 3 years old iPhone is on par - in benchmarks - with 2016 Android phones?)

He was talking about the 5s which is still being sold in several markets including the U.S. (well at least T-Mobile is still selling it).

For 600$? I don't think so.

Perhaps in his country they were selling it at that price.

Than he is the exception, not the rule, and his opinion is irrelevant.

When iPhones sales decline terribly, Apple will be forced to lower it's prices worldwide.

While 56 million + handsets in a quarter is still great, no one, not even Apple, is immune to the market slowdown. Between that and increased competition from Android vendors, Apples iPhone sales were bound to take a hit. Definitely want to see how iPhone sales fair with the release of the iPhone 7.

I just don't see the fine line of innovation and reason to upgrade on smartphones anymore. This eliminates the need to buy new smartphones if you have any from 2015.

Obviously. The mobile device is like a broom, or rake, or shovel. You can add features to it like a special bend for snow shovels to releave weight (leverage), or add more bristles to a broom to lessen its workflow to make things easier, but at the end of a day.. They're still a shovel and broom. The same applies to mobile devices.

iPhone sales have taken a hit since 2010 when Android phones that were really worth buying started to appear, after we had 2 years of iPhone knock-off like the Samsung Instinct that was uttered junk. If Android has never appeared, it would be Apple selling 300M phones in a year, no Samsung. Android prevent the iPhone from gaining the market-share it likely could have had. The iPhone could have single handedly owned this market being first if it was 100% as flexible as Android is. I'm not saying Apple had to sell iOS to other companies. Just saying if Apple had done right, the iPhone with all the benefits of Android, with a 2 year head-start could have had 50% market-share in less than 5 years. if they had sold iOS to other outfits and those OEM's had the flexible version and Apple chose not to be, the iPhone would have already been dead. Android is where it is because of openness, not because it is free. After all Windows has never been free and yet it flexibility and hardware compatibility foundation took it to the top. With the help og the PC OEM's of course.

Android is where it's at because it far more widely available to the masses than any other OS. How many Android vendors are there? 200? More? I see Android phones every day from vendors I've never even heard of before. Even if iOS were as flexible as Android, it wouldn't have the reach that Android does due to pricing and because Apple is the only vendor building iOS devices. You can get Android devices for as low as $50 bucks (or less). There's no way you can say that a smartphone at that price isn't going to sell like hotcakes, especially in underdeveloped countries. And there are so many Android vendors because they are allowed to use the OS at no cost, and basically do what they want with it.

Actually Android doesn't work for everyone. Just look at Sony, HTC, and blackberry. The fact that Android is so widespread is what makes it a very competitive market. Just thought I'd put that out there.

Nowhere in my post did I say "Android is for everyone", nor did I imply it. Your comment had absolutely nothing to do with the conversation at hand.

Actually when I said "everyone" I was referring to OEMs, not consumers. My comment had everything to do with the conversation, there's no need to start attacking or getting defensive.

I didn't "attack" you or get "defensive". How about you take your own advice. And I knew what you were referring to. And no, your comment has nothing to do with what techie and I were discussing.

45. Mxyzptlk unregistered

If you knew what I was referring to, you wouldn't be throwing a hissy fit. Again my comment had everything to do with it.

Your comment is irrelevant on meanestgenius' response to Techie's comment. Stop looking for trouble.

Thank you. That's all he's looking to do, as usual, especially since it's the weekend. This is his only form of entertainment and companionship.

Hey MG!! "And for me to give up on which social circles I frequent, I reserve it for my family, or to those who I consider as family. Sorry"... You now see?

I wasn't looking for trouble adreno. I don't was just giving your "pal" a taste of his own medicine to which he apparently can't take.

Ergo, you were looking to start trouble, and got called out for it. Now see comment #59 and seek attention elsewhere.

If you were a mature adult, you'd know what a "hissy fit" is. And your comment had nothing to do with the conversation. I'm not gonna hijack this comments section for your entertainment. We both know that what I'm saying is true, so this is done right here. Once again, you've sought me out like a school girl with a crush, trying to monopolize my attention. Any further response from you will be met with a "Thanks for proving me right, now see comment ___". I know you can't help yourself and are going to respond, as you're an attention whre, begging for my attention as usual, so go ahead and prove me right.

Aka, I have lost again. It's not my fault you're completely asinine. It's like you told me, if you can't stand it when someone questions your bs, don't bother commenting.

90. meanestgenius

Posts: 21596; Member since: May 28, 2014

No, it's more like you've been called out for picking a fight you know you can't win, and have been proven to naturally seek my attention. You're a lonely troll and you just can't help it. I get it, but seek the attention elsewhere. Not only did I NOT post BS, but in responding to me, YOU were proven to have posted BS that had absolutely nothing to do with what I responded to. You didn't even "question" anything, so all you're doing is proving that you just need my attention, even if it's negative attention. And the more you respond, the more you prove me right. And everyone here knows it, my little "wannabe mini-me". Now thanks for proving me right, and see comment #59.

You are an idiot lol. Comparing the iPhone to an entire OS lawl.

Not really, the iPhone is the only phone with iOS, so it is an OS unto itself. Now you could argue that iOS should be compared individually to devices with stock Android, or devices with Touchwiz or with Sense. But in reality, Android, no matter which version it is, functions essentially the same.

43. Mxyzptlk unregistered

I would think it's arguable to compare it to stock, as in what Android is supposed to be and not the questionable route with Samsung.
