Report: HTC Volantis is a new 8.9 inch Nexus tablet

Amid all of the rumors involving an HTC produced 8 inch Nexus 8 tablet, it looks like the speculation was off by a tad. The latest rumor says that HTC is working on an 8.9 inch Nexus tablet codenamed the Flounder or Volantis. Back in March, we passed along some speculation that Google was planning on building an 8.9 inch Nexus tablet for 2014...

First thing i want from this is a cellular model even at 16gb for 399, other than that a nice battery life, then its pricing would be a killer, bt otherwise Samsung owns this department and ipad air is quite a fabulous offering.

My opinion is that these rumors are wrong. Mixing specs from the next nexus and an htc tablet. First of all, price is too high for a nexus device, and google would not charge $100 more for the 32gb version. Next, nexus devices rely on competitive price/performance ratio, so an aluminium premium construction is not what we're expecting from a nexus. Finally, the renders look like a big nexus 5, with a typical LG design. And we have two different names: first flounder, then volantis… My opinion is that we're mixing rumours for two different devices.

Agree with you, but i won't mind this design, look pretty good to me, also aluminum is most welcome. Only problem for me is the pricing, if Samsung and even apple could give you good options, i wouldn't choose nexus

The desing calls for a total FAKE. Google would´t go for a 4:3 resolution, 8.9 inches sounds to me like too big 2048x1440 it´s quite a strange resolution to use, too similar to the ipad mini2. Looks like someone making a a fake with Nexus 5 looks and ipad specs.

No kidding. How can anyone believe this is actually real? It looks like a Nexus 7 stretched to fit the form of an iPad Mini.

In fact, 2048 by 1440 is actually a 45 by 64 aspect ratio.

I realized of that later, it's not even 4:3. And it says " zero gap aluminum construction" when it looks like plastic too, total fake.

That resolution can't be real, it isn't even true 4:3.

This is so fake. 2048x1440 isn't even 4:3.

Its 64:45 for f***s sake. I'm calling BS, and I don't see Google putting out a tablet that's not 16:10 anyways.

Its fake, for starters, google never uses same wallpaper for renders, second the resolution is not 4:3 suitable. And google wont gamble again on nvidia.

If so then why Tango use K1?

Nvidia was never a gamble.the problem with the original Nexus 7 tablets is that they have bad memory, an Asus problem not an Nvidia problem. I am tired of all the Nvidia haters out there. Who are you going to use on your next build, ATI?

Specs overall is meh to me beside K1. Dislike Nvidia though. All the info I needed to know. Fake specs or not, gonna past the Nexus 8. Will be buying Tab S 8.4. and/or 10.5" - big AMOLED screen, sweet!

was expecting it to have at least the same resolution as the nexus 10 7 not a lower ppi than nexus 7
