Reader's choice: LG G3 outscores Samsung Galaxy S5

With so many high-end smartphones out there, it's impossible for us to avoid comparing them on a whole bunch of different levels. We've made detailed comparisons, specs comparisons, and what not, but one thing we didn't have until recently was a dedicated "reader's choice" comparison, where our users could step into our shoes and vote for the handsets they think are superior in comparison with their rivals...

And why is that?

Overrated doesn't mean it's bad. Only that it's celebrated moreso than it should be.

Yeah, S5 is a very good phone, but the LG G3 is better. Shame LG doesn't have powerful marketing like Samsung

Look at my review down below having both phones. The GS5 is the better phone of the 2, connectivity, the screen, the charging, the camera, water/dust resistant. GS5 wins in most categories.

I'd rather have a phone which is complete then a phone which is half baked sorry

I really like my G3, but I'll buy a better battery replacement soon!

The GS5's battery last longer than the LG's in my experience.

It's funny how Samsung has won themselves so much hatred by being at the top. It's so funny

I used to love Samsung but they need a design supercharge. They're recycling the S3 design over and over, and not even in a good way. They need to reduce the amount of bloat they offer as well.

Having owned the S2/S3/Note2/S4, G2/Nexus5 and currently the G3. Ive preferred the previous samsung models for many reasons (display, easy to root, camera), G2 for the Battery life/KnockFeatures/Price. Deciding between the S5 and G3 was one of the harder device decisions I've made. I liked that Touchwhiz is less intruding on the S5. I really like the flatter look and lack of home button on the G3. I prefer a more minimalistic feel for the UI(Nexus 5) and the G3 wins that. The G3 display is very clear and looks beautiful. Just my 2 cents.

I had the LG G3 and took it back for the GS5. In my experience with both phones using them over several days, the GS5 is a better phone. Water/dust resistant, much faster charging, although not quadhd screen, the super amoled blows away the washed out LCD screen. It's brighter if used in the sun and brighter overall along with deeper blacks and more colorful than the LCD screen, camera is better, though it is a personal choice I like Sammy's UI better..the actual responsiveness and connectivity was noticeably faster on the GS5. I'm attributing this to the quadhd screen possibly but I noticed it right away. Battery is another thing that lasts longer on the GS5. The only thing I found better on the LG was the design, with the exception of the back, in which I like the GS5's leather like look and feel better. The LG is a sexy phone but I want more than that out of my phone. Whatever you choose, I hope you enjoy it :)

Thanks for sharing. Been trying to decide between the two. It is good to have a fair assessment from someone who owned both phones. I think i would prefer LG's UI (I have the G3 on my G2), but am now leaning toward the S5.

My fiance has the S5 and I have the G3 and it testing done on wifi, the G3 and the S5 both using the Chrome browser, the G3 will consistently load websites faster.,, you name it.

I honestly don't know why you Sammy boys are up in arms. It's all about personal preference. Period. Not everyone is going to like your beloved Samsung. People are allowed to vote what they deem better in THEIR experience and THEIR opinion. No one cares about what so and so at XYZ developer site or what some Sammy fanboy at a blog says. People choose what they like. Period. Get over it already.

Please care to explain because from what I see, your comment is simply looking for attention and nothing else.

I've got both phones, my s5 has already started to lag and I have the same apps installed on both phones. Maybe that extra gig of ram isn't a gimmick after all. I do like the screen on the s5, as well as the g3's...I guess that's a personal preference thing, you can't go wrong with either one. The charge time on the s5 is better, but the G3 doesn't take that long either. Battery life is better on the G3 for me at least. I really prefer the knock code due to the face that you can go from sleep to home screen in a couple of taps, no need to do that extra step. The water resistant feature does add that extra sense of security just in case. Truthfully you can't go wrong with either phone...

I think with the screens it's one of those things like when you compare them right next to each other, it's noticeable. When you take "one" of them home, you quickly forget that one had a more saturated display and your brain quickly gets used to either one. 3 gigs of ram can only help things. it made a huge difference on the Note 3 vs. the Note 2. Also, as you rightly mentioned, the G3's battery is larger. Of course it's going to take slightly longer to charge.

If I had to choose between these two phones alone, I'd go G3. Bias to feel in hand, shape, materials, lack of front hardware button, non amoled even if halo'd an eating my 801/330 alive.

I'm coming off of the LG G3 and if I don't like it in two years, I might get the Galaxy S6/7 or the Note 5.

Meanwhile, the S5 still outsells the G3 5-1.

Opinion polls are always subjective and theoretical. Readers are tiny and unreliable arbiters of brands. The real deciding factor of which smartphone brand is better than the other is the buyers market outcome. Is LG outselling Galaxy S5 or vice versa? Let's hear the quarterly or end-of-year earnings reports of the two brands and we will see the real winner.

Well, clearly this is a conspiracy because otherwise Samsung's marketing department would have cast enough votes to make sure that they won. ;)

People need to realize what's best for you isn't the best for everyone. Can't believe how bent out of shape people get when someone likes a different model of phone then whatthey have. I prefer colors that closest to being accurate. For that I prefer the G3. After adjusting contrast don't have any issues with washed out colors. For people that read a lot on their phone the G3 screen blows away anything I've ever seen on a phone. The clarity of text is noticeable. These are the reasons I prefer the G3.

i Have an Love hate relationship with Samsung, I used The HTC One M8, Samsung S5, LG G3 and i must say i couldn't wait for the LG to be released, but after only one week i was very disappointing, the screen over hyped colors are way off, the battery life terrible, the out door visibility dreadful. so at the end i gone back to the S5 it is just a better allrounder , no one can take this from Samsung the screen is beautiful, the battery live is pretty good considering i am a heavy user, i must admit i would like Samsung to improve the UI A little and may be change the design to the standards lets say curved glass or something snazzy but i guess they will get the hint eventually i just hope the note 4 improves or i will definitely go back to Apple Iphone 6 if the 5,5 Version is in fact an option.

Ive owned the g2 gave it to my son. Now im using the g3. Owned an s4 and had samsung note 3, gave it to my sister, my dad owns an s5. Camera s5 hands down, screen i like amoled so s5. However the g3 screen is more sharper. But. Im never been more content and happier with the g3. Points to back buttons and thin bezels, and i cant live without the knock on. Its so useful as i open my phone even one the table without scramming for the power button nor the menu button like the s5. Battery still a little less than my old g2 but stills gets the job done more than a day. Did some few twitches and g3 now more snappier. I like the flat ui of g3 than s5 and holding both, the g3 feels better. I also have a feeling that samsung and lg are really connected in a way the feel of the ui and the tv remote are almost identical. I just feel that lg is samsung's reaserch and development guinea pig. Its their way of protecting their reputation if a new thing would flop and lg takes it. However, the thin bezel and back botton layout and knock feature feels like what every touch screen phone should be. I wish i could make the volume keys scroll my screen or let lg create an intuative touch pad at the back so i can navigate while i browse in the net so i have full view of the screen when i read Proud, happy, content g3 user for now. Samsung impress us soon, sony forget about them had the z1 z ultra but the ui sucks as well as battery and cam
