Qualcomm asks the ITC to ban U.S. imports of the Apple iPhone

Apple and Qualcomm are in the middle of a battle over royalties. Last month, Apple decided to stop paying royalties to the chipmaker until the mess is straightened out. Needless to say, that did not go over terribly well in San Diego where Qualcomm is headquartered. As a result, the latter is asking the International Trade Commission to implement a trade ban on the importation of the Apple iPhone into the U.S...

Don't get your hopes up. Common sense and any basic understanding of the orange buffoon dictates he sides with the "Murican" organization. Plus he'll have Wall Street LITERALLY down his throat should he not do so.

Both companies are American. Even if he did side with Qualcomm, iPhone sales would continue though, as Apple would most likely pay up.

I have no idea why, but I've always assumed QC wasn't American based. Never bothered to look it up either.

Hahaha! The best tech has never been made in America. We once had good names like Atari, RCA, Magnavox, Zenith, Ford, Harley and even Motorola. ALL OF THEM lost out to overseas companies...most of which are Asian. Finding a product made in America is not easy. In fact 80% of what Wal-Mart sells is made in China. The Philippines is another place companies like Dell, Intel and others use quite often. In fact when I call Dell, T-Mobile and even CitiBank customer service, most calls go to the Philippines or India. American isn't good at anything, accept war...which is where 65% of collected tax money goes.

Maybe its because you are a fan of apple and believe in them regardless of the truth. Just a guess...lol

Nah. If you look through my postings, I usually research what I'm talking about very thoroughly, or at least enough to not make a fool of myself ala Techie. I have a subconscious fear of looking stupid, so I do everything in my power to learn up on topics outside my domain. Having said that, QC just doesn't interest me enough to care honestly.

You are not alone, I was under the impression it was Asian or something. Just looked it up and they were founded in San Diego in 1985.

Damn... San Diego? I'd just assumed they were Korean for some odd reason. They definitely give off that Asian vibe you mentioned.

Same here haha. Guess that's the 'problem' with all the big guns manufacturing in Asian countries. When you read something about them, it mentions either China or Korea a lot. Like their big fine recently in South Korea

Don't be too sure. Trump is nothing if not petty, and Apple has fired some shots at him. He would most definitely choose revenge over the good of the country, without even a thought.

Well unlike Samsung whose products are 25% of South Korea's GDP, Apple products have no bearing on the US economy whatsoever. It would piss-off stockholders though as you stated. But Trump could use this as leverage as he has bashed Apple for its hidden offshore cash and the fact Apple has no factories here, which Trump has already mentioned many times. So Trump could behind close doors tell Apple, "I'm not Obama". "I will sign this ban and make you bleed until you either pay more taxes, bring us factories or stop hiding money. I mean, the Gov't can and has and will do illegal stuff and none of us can do anything about it, not even Apple.

He can't even read, which has been proven beyond reasonable doubt. And the fact is he won't sign it. But then again, Trump hit on Apple for not having manufacturing in the USA. So this could be a nice political move to tell Apple, either pay more taxes of your offshore money or I will sign this complaint and make you lose the money instead. Apple cant afford to have a ban on their products coming to the USA. Such an event would immediately hurt them because Samsung would flood the shelves with product to get those sales and so would others. Apple sells at least 50M phones in a single quarter. Imagine a ban for just one. Considering gov't red tape, it could last half a yea easily. I think what QC should do is, any technology Apple uses that is patented by QC, QC should have that company stop providing Apple with the components. QC will state they will compensate the company for any loses. Because QC can borrow the cash easily if needed. Even with all the cash Apple has, scrambling to get alternative options would not work well, because that means crappier cheaper parts and yield issues. Which leads to more product failures as we have seen already. Apple could potentially lose here. They signed a contract. Finish the contract and negotiate a new cost later. QC, even if they don't provide an actual solution, if they have a patent that is being used, they have a right to royalties. Apple gets paid royalties on tech they don't make but hold a patent on. Am sure they want to get paid. DOUCHBAG APPLE AGAIN!

""exclusionary tactics and excessive royalties" to get to where it is today" Apple sees and complains of excessive royalties from Qualcomm? LMAO. How about Apple not seeing the excessive price tags and milking tactics it does with its iProducts? Apple sees nothing wrong in doing that, because it's consumers are willing to pay for the excessive pricing of the iPhone. So, Qualcomm should see nothing wrong in doing that too, since Apple was willing to pay Qualcomm the royalties it asked for its patents. Typical Apple hypocrisy.

The irony here of Apple complaining about royalties based on a percentage of the device price, while arguing in another venue that their royalties should be 100% of profits plus is just staggering.

Precisely! And they're already collecting 30% royalties from devs, plus a hefty price tag on MFi devices ( https://youtu.be/PmTSN4zWeQ0 ), it's not like Qualcomm is asking for anything near that %. Such a bunch of cheap hypocritical douchebags...

Apple signed a contract so they agreed with Qualcomm's terms and conditions! Crappy Apple needs to pay simple as that! Apple is the most greedy, hypocrite, annoying company i have ever seen.

Even Microsoft in their worse days, was nothing like this. Apple truing to bully.... Every OEM who sources product to Apple, should all hit the breaks and tell Apple, you own't get another part until you pay Qualcomm. Lets see if Apple has enough money to sue everybody.
