Qtek unveils its first clamshell EDGE music phone - 8500

Qtek has unveiled its first mobile phone to feature clamshell form factor - 8500, aka HTC Star Trek, which was announced last week at 3GSM World Congress by i-mate under the name Smartflip. The ulta-thin device weights only 99 grams and is 16mm thick. It is based on Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system and is the first handset from Qtek to support EDGE high-speed data. Qtek's website reveals the multimedia features of the 8500, but fails to mention its smartphone ones. Qtek 8500 sports:

  • dual color TFT displays
  • 1.3-meg apixels camera (2.0 mega pixels in the Smartflip, according to i-mate)
  • microSD memory expansion slot
  • dedicated music buttons

Qtek plans to make the 8500 available on the European market in May this year.
