Pollution to be monitored by pigeons, equipped with mobile phone

New Scientist magazine revealed that some researchers from the University of California plan to send a flock of 20 pigeons, equipped with mobile phone backpacks to monitor the air pollution over San Jose, in August this year. In their backpacks, the pigeons will carry a GPS receiver, air pollution sensors as well as a basic mobile phone. Moreover, the pigeons will have miniature cameras, slung around their necks, to make pictures. All the data, including air quality text messages and aerial pictures will be posted on a special pigeon blog.
