PhoneArena Awards 2014: Best phablets

"Phablet" is a word that didn't even exist until several years ago. Today, these devices bridge the gap between smartphones and tablets by delivering the best of both worlds. They're small enough to be carried in a regular pocket, yet sufficiently large for us to enjoy the web, our apps and games, and our media to their fullest...

Look Dark, I have nothing against people who buy the phones that they like. It wasn't my intention to generalize iPhone users. For that I got a little carried away. But there are A LOT of people who buy them JUST cause they're iPhones. Which is cool. But I just get a little mad when people talk about Apple beating Samsung cause of sales. I mean , tons of things sell well that are awful it doesn't mean they're good. That's all I'm saying. That being said the IPhone 6 Plus is a great device.

not a lot people, most people. Most people buy iphone bcoz its iphone. Darkk, not everyone is in the ecosystem and if you think they are then you are living with illusions. Most people do nothing more than texting, chating and calling. In my city iphone is the talk of the town. you'll see almost everyone holding iphone, even kids but it doesnt mean they understand ios and its ecosystem. I can bet, hardly 10% people will be in the ecosystem. There are some mindfull and intelligent iphone users as well, best example is you Darkk. But TreytreyTaylor's statement "iphone users are mindless" holds the ground too, trust me.

You're rite bro, for several it is a status symbol. I'd be stupid to argue against that. +1

Totaly agree, i am using android tablet once and move to iPad because many user said it was much better tablet over any android tablet. now i'm still using iPad 4, i am stuck... never think to upgarde it to newer iPad Air 2 which is very expensive in Indonesia and not worth the upgrade or offer any useful feature which older generation can't except those fingerprint gimmick for me. i'm using note 3 so i know better, android phablet especially Note 4 is a beast, it's useful, it's powerful and offer a tons of feature.

iPhones are great devices with their flaws as well (like any other phone) which are way overpriced in my opinion and I refuse to buy things which are overpriced otherwise I would have tried them. as the guys above me mentioned iPhones do not sell because they are good devices, the main reason is because they are iPhones.

The only problem is iOS.

One would think that the actual Tim Cook would post without stupid spelling errors or at least spell the name of his product right. iPhone 6 Plus not IPhone... Stop impersonating Tim or learn how to correctly spell iPhone... Thanks

It's "Tims" horrible keyboard on his highly proclaimed/anticipated "phablet".

hey tim, how would apple fair if there were dozens n dozens of ios oems? do you think apple would be where they are if there were dozens of ios oems? and apple is only putting out 2 iphones out just recently, equates to great sales per iPhone...if there were a dozen iphones out a year, I wonder the per iPhone sale would look like, and im leaning towards iPhones eating up sales against each other.

And, as usual, you are wrong. The Note 4 is far and easy away the best phablet - the iPhone 6+ isn't even in the ballpark.

From my short experience with the N4, and very long one with the N3, the 6 plus is more than in the ballpark, it's a tie game to me. The Note has the sluggers, Bonds, Giambi, and Papi. The iPhone has the hitters, Jeter, Ichiro, and pre 2004 A-Rod.

I haven't watched a baseball game since the last strike - baseball analogies are lost on me. And I have to disagree. The 6 Plus is just a bigger 6. The Note 4 is in a class by itself. The Note 4 is MLB, the iPhone 6 Plus is Triple A. (sorry, that's as close as I can get to a baseball analogy.) Now, if you're talking iPhone 6 versus Galaxy S5, that's more of a tie. Each has its pluses and minuses.

@ TimCook. Be aware that this article is about "best phablet", not "best selling phablet"! Therefore, it is impossible for iPhone 6 plus to be the best phablet (just look at the list of missing features described later here). Regardless, when iPhone 6 plus is missing a long list of features, how can it be the best. Truth is, iPhone 6 plus sells more than the Note 4 because there are a bunch of people in Asia and in US like yourself with the following behavior: 1) I like it; 2) it is said to offer better user experience (in fact, it is not) than Android; 3) it doesn't crash (my latest iP5s kept crashing on social networking and newspaper apps), 4) it doesn't stutter (my latest iP5s often didn't recognize my finger swipe made from different angle/strength/curse), 5) iPhone is a status symbol (I gave up arguing with the Asians upon this), 6) it is from Apple, the most innovative company (Apple is out of top 10 companies awarded with the most IP this year worldwide, Samsung is within top 3). The features missing from iPhone 6 plus, versus Note 4 are: removable battery, removable micro SD card of up to 128GBytes, truly retina display of the modern era (1440 x 2560 versus the pitiful 1080 x 1920 of iP6+), higher camera pixel count (16M vs the pitiful 8M of iP6+ at about the same pixel size), truly multi-tasking and split-screen display (versus restricted multi-tasking and no ability to split the screen to display two contexts simultaneously), dual-SIM support in certain geographies, pen support. In fact, the only better feature offered by iPhone 6 plus is the finger sensor. So, grow up and look at the real substance beyond all the hyped features of iPhone 6 plus!!

Beating Samsung at it's own game? Do some research please. More than 80% of Iphone 6 and 6+ sales are from returning customers, so you are trying to say that the remainder of that 100% (less then 20%) are Samsung customers switching to Iphones and that is what is causing Samsung market sales to be lower than expected? I guess other smartphone makers didn't play a part of it after all? Hahahaha you are funny. By the way the article title is Best Phablet of 2014. and guess what even tho apple consider the IP6+ a phablet, it is nothing more than an oversize iphone. Phone Arena made another article called Best smartphone of 2014 and the IP6 came out on top,i point this out to illustrade you on the meaning of the articles. It has nothing to do with ecosystem or games.

I actually feel sorry for some people. Such greatness the Note 4 possesses and people hate it so.

I really like it, but the 6 plus suits me better. The S-Pen, multi window, pop up video, and S-Pen features are awesome. Mos def the most versatile phablet on the market.

Don't feel sorry, just try to understand, obviously you believe the Note 4 is a great device , and I respect that, but that doesn't mean everyone shares the same believes with you. No phone is perfect, every phone has some features people like and some features people dislike. As a customer myself if I was in the market for a phablet I wouldn't consider buying the note 4 and please Let me explain... The note 4 has some things that bother me, my biggest issue with samsung devices is touchwiz. I don't like touchwizz, it bothers me. Second is Android and the lack of Apps. Until now ios has better apps and games than Android. Finally I don't like the looks of the note 4 and the s pen is something I have no use for... Many people have the same issues I have with the note 4 therefore don't buy it, For many people touchwizz alone can be a reason to absolutely avoid samsung devices, for others can be Android, for others can be just the looks of the device, maybe the size is too big, for others can be the brand ( bad experiences in the past with a particular brand makes people not to trust them enymore ) I am pretty sure people who don't like Apple devices have their own reasons.. One thing is for sure, the mass prefers the features of iPhones, nobody is stupid and brain washed, they buy something because they like it and they are free to chose what they want.

Well said post TM. While I think more highly of the N4 than you do, I agree with your general points. You're not trolling at all, you're simply speaking your mind. I tried it a week ago, kept it from Friday to Sunday and returned it, the 6 plus is my preference and I'm good. Finally scored my 128 gig gold 6 plus. +1

@ TimCook. Your reason of "touchwizz" is laughable, and ridiculous. Touchwizz is nothing but a skin. It doesn't stop you from the use of the good features and hardware of Note 4. On the other hand, I found the skin of iP6+ and iOS8.1 unsophisticated and plain. The icons and colors appear to be drawn by a child, simply without depth and sophistication. Of course, my opinion is very subjective. But, a product should NOT be judged by superficial appearance because this is a shallow approach and not fact-based! You are dead wrong. The mass (only in certain geographies like US and China) who are buying the iPhones mostly carry a lot of one-sided perception and do not make their buying decision based on absolute merits (i.e. hardware capability). Just look at the poor resolution and limited features of iPhone 6 plus. Besides, Apple insists on the proprietary 9-pin charging connector while the rest of the industry consolidates on the micro-USB. Therefore, as an iPhone user, you are helping Apple to kill more trees! As for lack of Apps. Don't make me laugh. You cannot be serious with that point. Please educate us what games and apps are not available under Android. Android is not a perfect OS. But, so is iOS. They both have their pros and cons. In conclusion, your reasons of disliking Note 4 is so subjective while none of those reasons are deemed scientific and fact-based. Once again, you simply don't recognize the true values of iPhone 6 plus and Note 4 because you have too much perception in your mind. Please realize that Samsung is in the top 3 of the companies in the world, which were awarded the most patents this year, while Apple is far out of the top 10!

Touchwizz is something I don't like, even though the Note 4 is a powerhouse the UI is still slow, ugly looking and more lagy than other android skins and ios. That's my opinion, if you feel different go buy the Note 4, I personally won't. All people and countries are the same, if the iPhone is killing it in some specific regions more than others then so be it....people are people and money are money. About the games and apps, I use Ms word for work ( still not available on android ), Pixelmator for photo editing ( ios exclusive and by far the best photo editing app ), my facebook app on my IPad is tablet optimised I think the Android version is not optimised for tablets just yet, at the moment I am playing 4 games, Vain Glory, Seabeard, Bertram Fiddle and Game of Thrones ( I think, only Game of thrones is released on Android)... Samsung is a company with many patents, that's true, but is also true that their sales are declining...

If you don't like touchwiz, that's fine. It's your choice. But it's not laggy (as every review has stated). Sales have zero to do with what's best. Virtually every tech review site has proclaimed the Note 4 the better device. The 6 Plus doesn't even make the top three here.

Have you even use a note 4? I just laughed at your comments here. Yeah, touchwiz may be lag, but not on the note 4 and note 3! With 2.7ghz quad of the note 4, i dont see any lags or delays you are saying about the note 4! And besides, note 4's design is far better than you iCrap6+! Note 4 has the bigger screen than the 6+ but yet 6+ has the bigger body size because of its thick bezels! Sorry, but i think the note 4 is far better, and dont say that android lack of apps, i might believe you if said WP8 lacks of apps.

In other words what you like is an oversizes phone, not a phablet. You have to learn the difference between the 2.

I wish people would stop bashing the iP6+ here, it's not even mentioned in the article! ... (OOOOOOH!!!!) Anyways, you can do whatever you can on a normal-sized iPhone, but on a bigger screen? What's hard to understand about that? Some people just want a bigger screen is all, and you can do a lot with an iPhone.

He only bashed it because someone mentioned it, claiming it was better than the devices listed in the article.

Yeah, that's the point of the comment section, to put other people in their place! Also, I wish I didn't have to point out that I was totally bashing the iP6+ in the first part of that comment, but if people gloss over that part, it's a problem with my writing and I feel obliged to further explain.
