Original Google Pixel XL returns to the spotlight with killer eBay deal
The fact you can still find brand-new original Pixel and Pixel XL units at various eBay sellers and even major retailers like B&H Photo Video a full six months after Google officially discontinued the two 2016 phones probably tells you everything you need to know about their commercial success.
But with the Pixel 3 XL up for pre-orders starting at a whopping $899, and the Pixel 2 XL marked down to a still-prohibitive $699 and up, Android purists may find a $284.99 Pixel XL OG quite appealing.
This is an “unused, unopened, undamaged item”, mind you, shipped in “its original packaging” nationwide for free by a respectable eBay seller called PhoneStoreUSA.
You obviously won’t get a manufacturer warranty with the factory unlocked 32GB white Google Pixel XL on special sale here, but PhoneStoreUSA will handle functionality and activation issues reported during your first 30 days of ownership.
Now, we’re not going to act like the Pixel XL has aged unusually gracefully, but that 12MP rear-facing camera, 5.5-inch AMOLED screen with 2560 x 1440 resolution, and 3,450 mAh battery are not half bad by today’s high-end standards.
With no front-firing stereo speakers, proper waterproofing, or a very modern processor, the XL “pure Google” phone could definitely be better. But your 285 bucks will buy you a stock Android 9.0 Pie software experience and a headphone jack, among others. Also, while the screen bezels are huge, at least there’s no ghastly notch. Finally, that aluminum-and-glass build is increasingly rare today, evoking a warm feeling of nostalgia.
