Why was the GN a huge let down? I have had the phone since launch day and have not had any issues other than my addiction to flashing different kernels and such...

That's sortof your opinion, it seems most people like the phone. Verizon, on the other hand, neutered it so blame them

Gn has been the best phone I have ever used. In terms of design itself it was totally underrated. Everytime I get it out everyone wants to know what it.

And IMO pure android is the best OS available

1. "verizon neutered it"
2. faulty charging port (such a pita)
3. ICS is NOT as smooth as promised
4. JB rollout is NOT as quick as promised (for gnex)

and ive read articles and talked with people that share this opinion. i was in love with this phone before and after purchase for a few months. but since then its been let down after let down.

1. I fail to understand how Verizon neutered this phone, other than having to install updates myself it's identical to other carriers.
2. Faulty charging port? Mine works fine.
3. Oh shut the f**k up about ICS not being smooth.
4. I was running JB within 24 hours of the announcement.

1. I think he means that being a Nexus, it should've had JB on it way before now on Verizon.

2. I actually just had the charge port start showing signs up messing up on mine. Doesn't really bother me, a simple battery pull fixed the issue but it was annoying.

3. ICS I thought was very smooth on my phone. Then I put JB on it and it's lightning fast! Ooops, shoud I not use the word lightning anymore? I don't wanna get sued....

4. JB is the ish. Well played, sir!

its not a software issue. you may think that you did something, but you didn't. the flange inside the port becomes bent easily. this can cause the phone to act very strange. if you reset or do a battery pull, it might help for a bit, but until you bend that flange back, it will continue and only get worse. this is a known issue that verizon nor samsung will admit to, because they dont want to offer you a referb just for a $.01 port flange.

from hardware to software to customer support, the phone is a let down. say what you will and defend it all you want, but im done with android.

ICS isnt smooth.

one of the main reasons i bought a nexus branded phone was so that i could get timely updates. i can root and flash roms, but its not something i like to do. i want a premium phone that works well all the time. i dont want a finicky device that requires constant tinkering.

ayephoner, I definitely agree with you. When the Galaxy Nexus was announced, everyone made it seem like this was the phone to have...and its not. About the only thing I liked about it was that it was running stock Android. And you're right, ICS wasn't smooth (I don't know about Jellybean though). I don't hate many phones, but the Galaxy Nexus is one of the few that I do.

My S2 with ICS is incredibly buttery with Nova Launcher. It's awesome.
But yeah, regular ICS wasn't as good as promised.

No android phone will ever be smooth enough for you. Just get an iPhone or Windows 8, problem solved.

I running jelly bean on my 2 years old milestone 2. Its smooth just like froyo and gingerbread in term screen navigation no fuss there. The killer function that i like most is google voice search and google now services.

1) They removed google wallet
2) Forced carrier apps on it
3) Did a poor job in promoting the device.
4) Delayed the device

Unlocked gsm with jelly bean out of the box is $350. The phone is great, one of the best deals on the market imo. You should blame your carrier instead.

if you are unhappy with the product because of the update then you need to scream at VZW. The fact that it's still not updated is beyond stupid. Other phones are getting JB updates before a frikkin Nexus does. The fact that they dared to call it a Nexus and then lock it down like any other phone pissed me off from the get-go. its not a Nexus if its locked down.

That said, its a Nexus, if your tired of waiting, 10 minutes on XDA will fix your issue. I have JB running on my long officially DOA'ed LG-Gslate that didnt even get official 3.2. Its a night and day difference from crappy HC.

The nexus is for tinkerers. Its always been that way.

im unhappy with verizon because of the update, but moreso due to their customer service. its really, really bad.

im unhappy with samsung due to the hardware. they are getting premium money and obviously cut corners on the charging port. how on earth do you not make that out of durable materials?

and im unhappy with google for android. there were so many promises with ICS, which i loved at first, but over time my phone has lost its stability and sharp response time. im sure JB is great, but its still android...

Then it sounds like you either have some apps bleeding your CPU/RAM and need to look into that, or there is an issue with your phone. I'm running ICS on my old SGS1 without any issues.

Besides, they charge $350 through the play store for the phone for better technology than the i4s which charges $600. Who's getting premium money? Samsung is giving it away by comparison.

And no, JB is as big as an update as ICS was, which was completely surprising. And again, you own a nexus and your not willing to do the basic rom porting to give yourself JB.. so quit complaining. The GN rom port has been out in the wild for quite some time. Get to it.

try selling the nexus after a year andyou are lucky to get half of what you spend on it. the iphone on the other hand. keeps value further more dont lose money .. with tht iphone you only spend money at the beginning but if smart dont lose money unlike a used Android... thats why the price difference remix.. premium phone that retains value vs a Pure Goggle device that only tinkerers like you say buy

mate the iphone only holds its price becuase there are only a few options plus the fact (what apple proves countless time after time) the uninformed and wannabe in crwod poeple will pay more just for the bragging. just ashame now people are realising theres nothing to brag about owning an iphone

android, wp8,symbian all technically better then iOS and for people who want choice, freedom and there own unique phone experience

iphone for people who didnt look around for better or just want to part of the so called 'cool' group

Well, everyone goes on with his religion - try to drive an unleashed pony with undefined potential or keep running a good horse in a ranch with no ambitions?

People's OS or one's OS?

Well you already know my pick, I'll keep breeding the pony and the dream!

If the AOSP will be definitely beaten by the industries that want proprietary software, I will be able to say that I enjoyed it until it lasted...

Yes I'm fatalist today...

Nexus devices keep their value. And considering its selling new for 350, i dont think its going to be worthless for quite some time. I just saw the original Nexus 1 still going for over $100 on ebay like 2 days ago with people bidding on it. That phone is what.. 4 years old and it cant even run the newest OS because of its lack of memory.

It's just that Verizon made it suck. The GNex would have been even better if not for Verizon.

whatever it is, it shouldnt be anything I need to look into.

you're comparing launch day prices to year old prices. seriously?

i dont want to get to anything. thats why i bought a nexus was for timely updates. i want vanilla android to run smoothly and get updates quickly. android is not for the people they market it to. its laughable.

im pretty sure we warned against buying a phone through a carrier and expecting direct updates. If you want timely updates in america, your ONLY option is to get a factory unlocked set... otherwise, dont bitch if your not willing to do it yourself.

And launch day comparisons to what? the i4s still retails for 600.. has its tech changed since launch? The GN went down in price quite a few months ago now... through Google Play that is.

"Its still android." Can't understand why you stick with it. When i am unhappy with my nokia c7 after elop's announcement i sold it the same week. And started exploring android which i like over symbian.

Before that i buy every generations of symbian nokia phone because i am happy with it then.

Am i the only one who got the idea by the headline that the iP5 is a 'Big thing'?
iP4S was a big thing when it was released, nothing can be said about the 5.
God, PA makes it so convincing!!
