Note 7 scoops: release date, 360 look, Samsung Cloud, Gorilla Glass 5

Look, Ma, it's the Note 7! Yep, once again the Internet delivers a treasure trove of details about the upcoming H2 flagship from Samsung. First off, some juicy details from a source that has leaked credible info before the launch of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.

While they rehashed things that have already been speculated about the handset - that it will have a waterproof chassis that is tapered at the glass back, and only slightly curved at the front sides where the flexible display is - we are also learning that there will be a microUSB adapter to go with the new USB-C port in the box, too. The iris scanner is a go, and the stylus abilities have been greatly upgraded to allow use of the S Pen as a magnifying glass, or a direct translator, for instance.

The new twists are that the rumored Samsung Cloud service will make a cameo with the Note 7, giving each owner 5 GB of free storage to begin with. The redrawn TouchWiz will allegedly include “lots of white, a new status bar, and rounded app icons.” This is not hard to believe, as we've already seen the video of the beta Note UX running in the wild. The source also claims that Samsung will allow you to scale down the screen resolution all the way to 720p HD, to save on battery when needed. This one might simply be the standard/condensed screen modes that Samsung also hides in its current TouchWiz iteration, though.

A bit of a headscratcher is the piece that the current Gear VR won't work with this Note, but Samsung will out a new version for it, which will also be compatible with its previous flagships. Well, at least the 4 GB RAM/ 64 GB storage for the base units got an honorable mention, too. Looking at this leaked Note 7 prototype video, we can corroborate the 4 GB RAM story, and that an Exynos 8890 is inside, just like on the S7 and S7 edge. For the rest we won't spoil the fun, there's plenty to see and mull over before the August 2 announcement. Last but not least, the release date of the Note 7 is said to be August 19th, at least on T-Mobile, though pre-orders will probably start right after the announcement.
