Nokia denies it is looking at Android

Remember that job posting by Nokia on LinkedIn looking for a Linux-fluent engineer that kinda, sorta made it sound like it was looking at building Android hardware?; as we guessed earlier, the job is for its HERE Maps support for Android and iOS...

lol... android is not the world!! i will never live the world with all android!

Android is different from other OSes, it can be forked. One quite successful example is Amazon. That means Android will never be a closed and monopolistic force and any1 can "stand on the giant's shoulder" and make an even better thing. SS is moving in that direction and we can see they have a lot of interesting features for their own versions of Android. Many more are trying to do the same but the results are not as good as SS. Android = Freedom + Creativity Not just for only Google, it's for every1.

yeah, but still!!! i dont want to use android even a "forked" one!!! and besides, linux is free... and technically android is not the only linux!! MeeGo is a linux and a PURE ONE!!! android isnt since it is just linux-base! i'll choose MeeGo anytime!! thats why i consider the decision of nokia about MeeGo a huge loss!

And Windows Phone is not the world either. Any phone manufacturer that is smart knows you should want to offer a variety of devices with different designs, hardware, and software. Nokia has made some success with WP8, but imagine how much more successful they would be if they offered Android devices as well.

lol..did i say WP is the world? all i want is choices!! and android is not the real choice for manufacturer!! do you think other manufacturer that makes android as popular as samsung, sony etc?! they are even stuggling! even the "forked" android if kindle will die eventually after the 7" android of these companies will take off! if they want linux, they better buy that jolla! since meego is there software!!! and meego is linux! and im not rooting for WP actually..since the only differentiation of nokia is its apps and hardware! but i dont want them to go android! and the very reason why i choose to continue my support over RIM and BlackBerry since they are giving choices fo people! not everone will love android as you love it!

you are clearly contradicting yourself... since when does rim offer choices? nokia will be the one offering choices if they offer both wp8 and android. The only oem doing that is samsung

because most people want RIM to go android as well...that why i support them that they continue their own software! that all company should do!!! just accept the fact that nokia will never go android!!! it is stated there "Principal Software Engineer, Embedded Linux Middleware" LINUX!!! and linux is not only android! again, its not even a pure one!!! linux is broad!! there's ubuntu, webOS, linux mint etc etc!! and meego is linux!! a pure one! so if i where nokia, i'll take back meego and continue meego!

no one cares whether android is pure linux. it's about the possibility of nokia going android. also, you said you like rim because it provides choices. next you said that it's good for rim to stick with one os. please get your points coherent. you make a terrible debater.

lol..people does care!!! coz pure linux apps can run on any linuux OS! while android, you cant even run it on ubuntu! "also, you said you like rim because it provides choices. next you said that it's good for rim to stick with one os." by what i mean choice is that they stick to their own software..and that is the choice for people!! they give a choice that is not android! and that is BB10! you just dont get it!!!

ikr!!! these companies dont make much on android! even samsung will bet on WP as well since apple wont stop sung them! about HTC... you know what they say, everything that on top will soon fall down... but i'll add, the world is round! so its just rise and fall... if you're down, there's always a possibility that you'll rise back! still hoping the major revamp of HTC will work!

Also, I never said they should go completely Android. I said they should offer their customers choices. Please read my comments twice before commenting because it appears you have an inability to comprehend what I am saying.

Yea..they should at least release one or two android models to satisfy their fans who like android. Betting all of it on windows 8 is really risky, no?

IMO it was risky. But...if it pays off it will be better for them. I still say if other Android manufactures can do an Android and WP phone, so can they. Its odd that Motorola and Nokia.....2 companies that really poineered phones, are not doing a phone for the other company. Moto has yet to do a WP phone and Nokia has no Android phones. Interesting...

yeah it's risky, but then again if you wanted to success you must escape from your safety zone, if you fail you dead, if you success it will be a big winner

Very risky. Although i think MS are probably pushing them not to go Android. Big mistake imo. Android could really have turned Nokia around. Still very uncertain that windows phone will succeed.

yeah..an os that's bound to succeed despite all of its critics. nokia didn't even give it a try.

Damn if there was a Nokia Lumia Android id pay top bucks for that! :)

I think Nokia can't afford to make WP8 look like a failed experiment, they have too much stake in it. Nokia already has Android, it's Jolla. I believe Sail Fish is forked Android. I think Nokia has to make Jolla independent to avoid violating the agreement with MS.

Sailfish = based on Linux kernel Android = just has a Linux base (modified kernel, the lag is part of this, not optimised 'yet') Android: Kernel type => Monolithic (modified Linux kernel) Package manager => Google Play, APK Sailfish: Kernel type => Monolithic (Linux) Package manager => RPM Package Manager (same as the one seen on Red Hat, Fedora etc.) Sailfish is NOT Android, Its LINUX...!!
