Nokia VP unhappy with Windows Phone app progress

0. phoneArena posted on 29 Jul 2013, 05:26

We will be the first to say that the Nokia/Microsoft symbiosis has had its fair share of ups and downs. Regardless, if you have been paying close attention to their dealings, you can almost feel a sense of camaraderie between the two, despite the naysayers...

And that's why Microsoft / Nokia need to keep those apps and games coming, and also, make most of them free like Android.

If only Windows phone had many apps and games, they could have sold more devices

The problem is that most apps and games on the Marketplace aren't free, you need to pay for it.

It's not that bad really, most of the high profile apps are covered, its the smaller apps we are missing, for example is a music festival makes an app, we never get one.

IMO, lack of apps is not depressing as much as the OS itself!!!

I mean, WP8's been out for almost a year now and there is still no evolution at all!

We say (on user's voice) we need A,B,C,D, & E then Microsoft updates the OS with J !!!

If Microsoft respects its users, then it should add:
- Screen rotatio lock
- Seperate main ringtone from media ringtone
- ..
- ..
- ..
- and all the S**T we demand earlier which is something standard on other OSs!!!!!!!!!!

Let's hope that they will add these on the GDR3 update.

Another chicken or egg question :
People not buying windows phone because not enough apps , or devs not making apps for windows phone because not enough userbase ?

Their phone market share are increasing so the apps will come. For me, i happy to use android still windows 8/9 becomes a viable choice in 2014.

Most of Nokia fans are unhappy with Nokia adopting only WP.

Just fire Elop, reinvent Meego or your own OS, adopt Android beside WP . Then, Nokia will sell hundred millions of smartphones withing few months ..

Sticking with only WP would never ever bring glory to Nokia.
Please Nokia, come back to your legendary era.

No, they should stay on the path they're on.

Samsung is the only - yes, ONLY - Android manufacturer to make significant profit.
Samsung, to non-enthusiasts, equals Android, as Nokia Lumia equals Windows Phone.
Samsung wouldn't just rest if Nokia made an Android phone. They can afford to undercut them on price, overwhelm them in marketing, overwhelm them with models and manufacturing capacity, and have more experience with the messy OS, and already have a stranglehold on the platform.
Nokia decided Android wasn't up to snuff in 2011, which still holds true, as it was too expensive to get into due to higher component needs and licensing costs.
Android is too crowded already and those in it (excepting Samsung, obviously) are barely keeping their metaphorical heads afloat.
Windows Hone is pretty great, and gets better with each release, which comes with pleasant enough frequency, AND the best desktop integration in the market.

Now that the GDR3 updates are out and Windows smartphones can use al the high tech smart phone gear Apple and Android smart phones use and Windows smart phones ownership are at 6 percent and growing. I think it is time for apps makers to get to work on porting their current apps to Windows smart phones. in some countries like South Africa Windows smart phones are hot so there's money to made selling good apps for Windows smart phones there. now windows smart phones sold to new smart phone owners is a different matter since they are new to smart phones they will be more patient than seasoned smart phone owners and wait for their
Windows smart phones to get apps. At least now Windows smart can use current technology
and have to GET Apps Apps and more Apps

I agree with your ideas, but GDR3 is coming late summer/early fall, but GDR2 just released and is being distributed. GDR3 will be the update for the masses, with higher-red screens and even more cores and such.

Windows phone is great OS, but MS is very slow with development. And unfortunately, Nokia suffers :/

Nokia should release android phone while waiting for windows to add more quality and popular apps or else they would continue to lose market share! Windows might be a better OS but most people don't care and look for popular apps especially game apps that is why cheap android phone are very popular because people simply want a touch screen phone with great apps!

Yeah if other flashlight apps provide better functionality and features than others in the store than I will welcome it and not just reject like some selfish people.
I don't have a problem with competition b/w apps (which makes them better and in the end the one who benefits from it is end user).

Is this the first hint that Nokia may consider going with Android? I really hope so. Nokia has the hardware capability to push both Android and Windows successfully. Honestly ,in the good old mobile phone days (read 5 years back) who would even imagine preferring a Samsung/ LG or other phones over a Nokia?. There are lots of people (myself included) using Samsung Devices today, not because we have any love for samsung but have no other choice because WP8 has not fully matured and Android fulfills our requirements better. If Nokia goes for Android today, it will also have the advantage of starting with Jelly Bean OS. I have nothing against WP OS, which I am sure will be an excellent OS with all the apps in about 3 years. But can Nokia afford another 3 years?

All are unhappy with this, many want to switch to WP but due to small WP store, they didn't. MS move your butt.

Here's an idea Mr.Biniak... Branch out and pitch the idea to build Nokia's ver of Ubuntu Edge to Canonical. Almost risk free (remember to haggle for some of that 36mill to get it done from Canonical) AND it's supposed to dual boot Ubuntu (proper Linux) + Android (apps? Did someone asked for apps?). Pair Nokia's HW know how to the concept and then boom. If it's done right there's your ultimate fallback plan should the WP ship are heading for the iceberg.

We Got You Under My THumb,Microsoft singing to Nokia Board,We Are saving you company so stop complaining,Microsoft are not really interested in advancing Windows further because they realise that Android an Apples iPhones are miles ahead in Applications an Features,Mr Elop now better get is position at Nokia finally finished because all the Promise he said Windows would offer to Nokia are not Good Enough for Nokia to compete in the High Tech Smartphones,an are not advancing but declining with Windows
