Earlier today, it was revealed that HMD Global was working on a new flagship model that looked set to include an unknown feature originally “pioneered” by Chinese brands. Now, thanks, once again, to Roland Quandt, that feature along with various other details surrounding the flagship device have been revealed.

Starting off with the name, the commercial branding that will be utilized is still unconfirmed, although the Nokia 9 moniker is the most likely candidate. Nevertheless, it’s worth noting that the smartphone is presently being developed under the “A1 Plus” name, or “A1P” for short. This suggests that the flagship may resemble the Nokia 8 Sirocco that launched back at MWC 2018 which was codenamed “A1N.” Unlike the latter model, though, the new device looks set to ship with Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 845 on the inside. Additionally, it’s worth pointing out that some significant camera upgrades are also set to be present, despite some initial development problems. At this moment in time, the exact details of the setup remain unknown, but, according to internal sources, HMD Global has reportedly taken a “high risk.”

Now, in regards to the interesting feature also present on certain Chinese smartphones, it turns out HMD Global is actively working to introduce an in-display fingerprint scanner on its flagship model. Initially, it appears the manufacturer had problems with the reliability of the sensors, but these seem to have been overcome by utilizing slimmer glass on top of the OLED display that is set to be supplied by LG.

According to the information, HMD Global initially started work on its flagship model back in February, with an official announcement set to take place at IFA 2018 later this summer and a release following shortly after. Also, on one last additional note, the Nokia 9 will ship with Android 9.0 P straight out of the box.
