Now that the onslaught of late 2018 flagship smartphone releases is pretty much over, it’s time to turn our attention to a no doubt furious and exciting avalanche of early 2019 high-enders.

Along with the usual suspects (Samsung, LG, Sony, and so on), Nokia is widely expected to finally make a premium handset comeback sometime during the first few months of next year.

Of course, the Nokia 9 (or Nokia 9 PureView) is actually being developed by a little company called HMD Global, but what’s important is that bonkers penta-lens arrangement moves one step closer to an official confirmation today.

Thanks to the prolific (and almost always accurate) leaker Steve H. over on Twitter, as well as 91mobiles, we get to check out those five rear-facing cameras in a bunch of high-quality renders today.

These are based on factory CADs (computer-aided designs), so they still may not be 100 percent factual, but they sure give us a good idea of the flagship direction the Nokia brand is headed in.

First and foremost, it’s worth highlighting the Nokia 9 PureView will most likely snub the infuriating notch trend. That being said, the “forehead” and especially the “chin” on this device could definitely be smaller.

With a 2:1 5.9-inch QHD display in tow, the Nokia 9 sounds sharp and trendy enough while not aiming to beat any size records. Overall dimensions are allegedly 155 x 75 x 7.9 mm, which will naturally make this significantly taller, as well as slightly wider and thicker than the 5.5-inch Nokia 8 Sirocco.

The latter’s Snapdragon 835 processor is obviously expected to get an upgrade to an 845 silicon, which is perfectly adequate for a high-end smartphone today, but may fall behind the pack in just a few months.

The Nokia 9 PureView apparently leaves out the beloved headphone jack too, although shutterbugs might be willing to let that slide for the sake of possibly the world’s most advanced photography setup.

We don’t know exactly what each of the five rear shooters is supposed to do, but if you’re counting seven rings on the back of the Nokia 9 rendered today, that’s because a dual-tone LED flash and a dual-sensor detecting proximity are also coming to complete this futuristic design.

By the way, the rear cover should be made of glass, supporting wireless charging functionality, with a metal frame also in tow, a USB Type-C port on the bottom, a microphone integrated into the top antenna band, and no physical fingerprint scanner in sight. Does that mean the Nokia 9 PureView will follow the suit of the OnePlus 6T on the in-display fingerprint recognition bandwagon? Probably. Let’s just hope HMD Global goes through with this launch this time around.
