Nokia 7.1 follows 6.1, 6.1 Plus, and Nokia 7 Plus on Android 9.0 Pie
HMD Global, the 2016-founded company behind the spectacular resurgence of the Nokia brand, was recently declared the fastest-growing smartphone vendor of the year’s third quarter, which may have something to do with its stellar software support.

While Samsung is still ironing out the kinks of a heavily modified Android 9.0 update that’s only expected to officially roll out to the Galaxy S9 flagship family next year, the Nokia 7.1 already follows the 6.1, 6.1 Plus, and Nokia 7 Plus on the stable Pie boat.

As reiterated by Juho Sarvikas, HMD’s Chief Product Officer, on Twitter earlier today, these four impressively timely OS promotions are merely the beginning of a comprehensive program aiming to deliver Android Pie goodies “across the portfolio as fast as possible.”

The Nokia 8 and 8 Sirocco are most likely next in line, presumably followed by the Nokia 5.1 Plus, 7.1 Plus, 3.1 Plus, as well as the original 3, 5, and 6, and even the humble Nokia 1, 2, and 2.1.

For the time being, let’s just be happy a respectable mid-range device available for a reasonable price of $350 unlocked in the US can run silky smooth Android 9.0 Pie software in its “vanilla” Android One form.

Of course, while the over-the-air rollout is underway globally today, this is being phased to ensure the “highest quality and experience” are delivered, as highlighted by Juho Sarvikas, which means “some markets with longer technical approval cycles” will need to wait just a tad more.

Something tells us the US is one of those markets, but rest assured, your update will arrive “as soon as possible” without you having to lift a finger. Just remember to perform the occasional manual check so as not to miss the goodie pack as soon as it expands.
