Nexus Prime: what we know, and what we don't as of Oct. 7

0. phoneArena posted on 07 Oct 2011, 10:24

As the chips continue to fall into place, we want to gather it all up to cover what has been confirmed, what's still just rumor, and what is probably completely false when it comes to the Nexus Prime...

This is a discussion for a news. To read the whole news, click here

This was posted only 3 hours ago and there are nearly 200 comments. Most of which are just pointless hate. Why must people always fight and argue about android vs iphone? Different phones with different goals. All these stupid arguments clearly aren't getting anywhere. People need to chill out.

I used to complain about the flamewars, but if they increase hit counts and keep PA profitable so that Michael has a forum to publish thoughtful articles, then let them have their fun.

this is a repost of a rumor article from august. check the dates on the first posts. the new posts are generally much more calm then when all the idiots were in here stirring up trouble.

You just have to spot the "usual suspects" and scan through for the real discussion.

KRONeage, uh, yeah, get a life.
Undt ze Nexus vill be ze ruler of ze vorld.
Zen, all zee iDiots vill know zat Android.....
....hahaha.. megalomaniacal blather. Don't
run a-droid, just run amok.

Why don't you boys just boys whip them out
and compare them. They are phones w/extras.
Products. Like Miracle Whip and mayonnaise
(which do you like?) Is it a war?
Do you actually have stock in the company?
I do
I have stock in MMI
I have an iPhone (three actually, incl. my wife's)
I will probably upgrade to Nexus Prime for me and
iPhone 4s for wife and will still use my iPhone 1st
gen. on wifi as an iPod w/ a great stock app.
I hope I won't have to keep th iPhone 4s and the
Prime in separate rooms so they won't fight.

Just wondering what everyone thinks which device is better, the Samsung Droid Prime or Motorola Droid RAZR?

Per current rumors, the RAZR will have a qHD screen where the Prime is 720p HD. The RAZR will likely launch with Gingerbread and Moto's custom UI, not ICS. Otherwise comparable devices specwise but completely different shape and feel to each.

Just watch iPhone 4 vs HTC Evo on youtube. It will exemplify what apple does to its customers.

Without doing any phone research i ordered a droid bionic and sold my droid-x so i wouldnt have to pay a dime. I waited eagerly for it to arrive but the Fed Ex guy put a note on my door that said delivery requires signature (i was home that day and did not hear a knock) This means that i would have to wait 3 more days to get the package because it was a friday. So i drove a half hour and got to fedex before they closed and got the package.

Chapter 2: I get the bionic, and right away am shocked by the pentile display. I wanted to return it right away. I decided i would wait for the iphone 5 or droid prime. So 14 days later (verizons return policy is only 14 days long) i went to a verizon store and returned it. They charged a 35 dollar restocking fee and i got $235 back (originally payed $271)

Chapter 3: I activate an old blackberry and use it as a dummy phone while i wait for the iphone 5, then i discover that the iphone 4s came out instead of the 5 so that made me not want an iphone. Then i read the news about the prime being delayed and realized screw it, i bet the prime wont come out for another year with my luck... So now i walk down the road to radioshack and find out they have a $100 sale on all smartphones. The bionic was on display for $199 with a 30 day return policy.

The question is.. Should i buy another droid bionic and use the 30 day return policy (no restocking fee) so i can surf through the waiting time of upcoming phones?? Or should i just buy a bionic, keep it, and convince myself that i like it?

Some people here will tell you you'll "get used to" the Bionic's PenTile screen, but when you're buying a phone on a 2-year contract, I suggest you don't settle. Don't give up on the Prime either; the press event may have been delayed (likely out of respect for Steve Jobs' legacy) but the phone could still be delivered late Oct/early Nov as planned.

The Radio Shack deal complicates things a bit; I'm in the same boat as I'll be able to upgrade on the 15th, the last day of the sale. I'd rather wait for the Prime, but if I can take advantage of that $100 off deal, I feel I should. I might be able to exchange for the Prime within the 30 days, but I don't know if they'll make me forfeit the $100 discount.

Bottom lines: a) Don't settle for a phone you don't like; and b) If possible, wait to see the phone in person at a VZW store before you commit.

I almost completely enjoyed the frank unbiased observations. The only sad part was that because of the curses, the childish johnson comparers who need to see this won't. Aside from that. Bravo!

@the_miz. What major problems did the Nexus S have. A different way of selling, yes. No sd card...sure...but that's what they r going g for like the iPhone, which most consider bad. No antennae problems hint hint
