Nexus 6P finally gets Android 7.1.2 beta (UPDATE)

Last month, when the Android 7.1.2 beta was first rolling out to the Google Pixel, Google Pixel XL, Nexus 5X, Nexus Player, and Pixel C devices, it was announced that the Nexus 6P would receive the beta at a later date. Well, consider yesterday to have been that later date as Nexus 6P owners have started receiving the update OTA. Remember though, that only those who are members of the Android Beta Program can receive this update.

If you're a Nexus 6P owner, it had to get you upset to see that the lesser-spec'd Nexus 5X receive the update before your phone had it. But that is all behind you now. And if you are not a member of the Beta program, signing up is a snap. Go to accounts.google.com and sign in using the email address that you employ on the phone. Click on "Enroll Device" next to the phone you want to, well, enroll. Go ahead and accept the terms, read all of the boilerplate warnings, and click on join Beta.

UPDATE:Perhaps we were too hasty in saying that Nexus 6P owners won't have to be jealous of Nexus 5X owners anymore. It turns out that the Android 7.1.2 beta on the Huawei built Nexus 6P does not include the "Moves" gestures for the fingerprint scanner. These gestures can help check notifications on the screen and open or flip the camera. The Nexus 5X does offer these gestures thanks to the Android 7.1.2 beta update. Unless the final version of the build includes the feature for the Nexus 6P, it appears we will have a Hatfield-McCoy type rivalry that will last for some time.

The only handsets eligible to join are the two Pixel models, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, Pixel C tablet, Nexus 9 and the Nexus Player. The Android 7.1.2 beta weighs in at 1.3GB and is being sent out on a staggered basis. If you haven't yet received the update on your Nexus 6P, be patient. Android 7.1.2 beta will hit your phone shortly.
