New Galaxy S9 leaks: no headphone jack?

The Galaxy S9 is slowly becoming a hot topic as of late. There are a lot of lingering questions — Will Samsung change the design or will it pull an Apple "s"? Will it move the fingerprint scanner from that odd, side-of-the-camera position? And will it continue to put headphone jacks on its phones?

Remove the stupid dual camera and give us 3.5 mm jack. I don't care about the fake bokeh either, it looks really bad.

Corded headphones will disappear in a few years. There is no reason to have a cable dangling out from your year while you walk or you are working out. I can understand cables in a music studio, but not anywhere else. We are in 2017, soon 2018. Cables be gone !

Sure, you have a point, and I'll be okay with removing that a few years from now. But right now wireless headphones suck, and cost twice as much as normal ones. Not to mention we still don't have a universally accepted standard for pairing, battery stats and high-res audio. Till that time comes, let me live with my corded headphones and give me the option. They can push wireless forward and when it's matured enough, remove it. Also I'm totally not fine with charging one more gadget(headphones) unless there is a universal charging pad or something like that.

The Bokeh on the new Pixel phones is fake, but not on the Samsungs or Huaweis. This is real Bokeh because of the second lense system. The one on the Pixel is digital.

That's not how bokeh works. No, both bokehs are digital. To create real bokeh, you need a large lens and aperture. Note 8 has defects in bokeh near hair. If it was real bokeh, it wouldn't have. I can explain the whole process of how it works, if you want.

The new Pixel phones' Bokeh is fake, but on phones from Samsung and Apple, it's real because of the second telephoto lens. On the Pixels, it is just digital.

Samsung badly needs the under-glass fingerprint sensor if it wants to beat Apple. I suspect a lot of iPhone X users will be annoyed by the lack of a fingerprint sensor. Let's wait and see...

I would be upset if they took that feature away and told their users they must now look directly at the device to unlock it. So much for discreetly unlocking your phone in an office meeting, class, or at the dinner table.

I honestly do not see any reason why Samsung would remove the fingerprint sensor... So, even if the under-display fingerprint sensor isn't ready for the S9, at least there will definitely be a fingerprint sensor along with Iris!

Exactly. Plus, why would they buy out JBL? It wasn't for the sole purpose of Samsung Home.

I feel that Samsung is trying too hard to emphasize what they can do with screen tech at the expense of other vital features, key amongst those being 3.5mm output and quality stereo front-facing speakers. And while the phone looks nice with next to no bezels, I have to ask at what point does it no longer become practical?

Now it's an iPhone x without the notch. Give us symmetry.

According to drawings, there will be NO bottom chin. It's an optical illusion, that makes the lower chin appearing. I like the top bezel solution. Imagine you have a black front, you won't even notice a bezel there. Much more stylish than ifone bezel.

Well, I guess 2017 would be the last year for smartphones with headphone jack. LG was the last to save it but for how long? Though, they managed to delay it to be obsolete. I just hope when everyone is already embracing wireless audio, technology is ready as well. I'm hoping LG will still lead the way to it. Just like aptX wireless codec they introduced years ago.

Way to soon to believe any of this.

Man, I'm going to be pissed if there is no headphone jack. But even more so if they don't put a 4k/144hz screen on it. And that top bottom looks awful too.

There's absolutely no reason to have a 4k display besides VR. Plus, the battery life would be absolutely awful, unless you mind having a phone that's half an inch thick. :)

We need the headphone jack to play FM. The cord is the Antenna. And yes on Stereo speakers.

I'm all for keeping the headphone jack and definitely wouldn't buy a device without it when there's nothing better out there, but you actually don't need it to play FM. You could probably do the same with a USB attachment similar to the Griffin iFM for iDevices back then:

Same "leaks" we heard about the S8/S8+. Every year, people try to spread the rumor that Apple's latest questionable design decision will become the standard. When it doesn't, they move on to the next questionable design.

If they want to remove that down bezel they have to ditch the headphone jack, so sooner or later it's gone If they want to keep up with the industry. With iPhone X Apple went to the next level and Samsung can't ignore it.

Give it a few months to get better rumors. To early now.

I think they will obviously keep the jack. They have been bragging about it just a few months ago, and they don't win any customers by removing it. It would be a brainless move. If they want to gain market share against Apple they have to differentiate.

It's gone sooner or later If they want to keep up with the industry, you can't remove bezels without removing headphone jack That's why Apple did it with iPhone 7 because they knew iPhone X design is coming and they wanted to make market ready for living without headphone jack This was also reason for google to do it now. Next year pixel will come without bezels.
