No it wont. Its just 16:9, but slightly wider. Netflix alreasy supports it and more are following.

Yes it will. Samsung and LG don't move the needle enough to change standards.

It's here to stay, it's simply the better form factor...by a mile. Holding my 7 Plus now feels clunky and wide, the 18:9, just feels damn good in hand. It's the future.

It may be here to stay in Samsung's portfolio, sure. But unless more OEMs start using it, it'll be a largely irrelevant addition. Remember that Dolby Vision crap (HDR+)? Almost no one talks about it, a select few vid apps support it. Reasoning: Not enough adoption to warrant resources from their perspective. And if we're being honest here, your 7 Plus feels clunky because it IS clunky. It's wide with a huge chin and forehead. The S8/+ don't have that problem in part because of (as you said) the elongated resolution, but such a screen ratio isn't necessary when trying to reduce physical footprint.

I think it's just the beginning for it.

Really? So why is Apple adding a display that is more of the front? Why do other oems have fast charging?

No, it won't, there are even rumors Google will make the Pixel XL 2 in this ratio. And it's pretty much here to stay.

18:9 wont get widely adopted unless Apple adopts it and pushes it.

Nope Samsung and others have pushed it and its doing well, eventually Apple will also adopt it following the trend of samsung and others and it be pushed more widely thats all. There are millions of S8 and S8 Plus out there. The new aspect ratio is here to stay thanks to android OEMS.

"18:9 wont get widely adopted unless Apple adopts it and pushes it." Don't kid yourself. Samsung is influential enough to set trends all by itself... curved edge displays being one of the most recent examples.

Yeah that's why everyone is rushing wide thin bezzel displays with rounded corners NOW, when Apple is supposed to make one. Btw what's curved edge display ?

Sharp Arquos, Xiaomi Mi Mix, LG G6 have done it before Apple was confirmed to do it as well. Xiaomi even got the display from Samung itself! Whether you want to admit it or not, It's clear Samsung set the bezel-less trend (side bezels, at least) all by itself.

Not enough for an upgrade from the 7/7plus for me. Samsung and Apple(not including the iPad) both got lazy in the design and OS department.

Wonder if any OEM bring a 18:9 tablet to market? Make a good media player for movies on the go.

LMAO, poor cluless Bankz. That's a pretty pathetic list and that's not even factoring in that the iphone anniversary edition is not going to provide even half of that. Add in the ugliest camera bump ever vs the GS8 which is the sexiest phone ever. The Note 7 crammed into a GS7 sized body for portability, doesn't get any better than that.

Looks decent except for the camera bump. Might actually feel great in real life with its smaller footprint but yea iOS 11 is garbage so there isn't too much to get excited about. Every flagship is a disappointment these days. Google seriously needs to start making rock soild flagships that can compete with Apple otherwise all we'll have is no support bloatware Samsung and One Plus versions of the iPhone.

At least the iPhone 7S will be a big surprise as no body even cares to leak it...
