Motorola's handsets to be designed by Pininfarina

Pininfarina, designer of Ferrari sports cars announced that they have signed an agreement with Motorola to design mobile phones for the company. According to the agreement, which runs from March 2006 to March 2009, a team of ten Pininfarina's designers will be dedicated to the project. Although details of the deal are still not revealed, Pininfarina mentioned that it will most probably follow the lines of the previous short-term contract between the two companies, when two designs a month were produced. A result of this previous contract is the Motorola i833 iDEN phone as well as other new models, which are expected to be released later this year. According to Pininfarina, the design “makes the difference” in mobile phones. Besides mobile phone design business makes up 30% of the company's nonautomotive business after only two years of working with the devices.
