Motorola P30 family shows up out of nowhere, could be related to the One and One Power
Motorola’s smartphone branding and release strategy doesn’t always make a lot of sense, as the Lenovo-owned company abandoned the Moto X family after 2015’s Style and Force, rebooted it last year with the X4, most likely looking to (at least) pause development again and instead roll out a whole new upper mid-range series.

But the oft-rumored, thoroughly leaked Motorola One and One Power, expected to arrive in Western territories soon as part of Google’s fast-growing Android One program, could launch first in China under entirely different names.

Three wholly mysterious handsets dubbed Motorola P30, P30 Play, and P30 Note purportedly showed up on the company’s official Chinese website earlier today, although we can no longer see any trace of their existence.

It’s unclear if these are indeed related to the Motorola One and One Power, and just in case you’re wondering, we’re not aware of any previous P-series releases. Lenovo had a Vibe P2 a couple of years back, giving up on the Vibe brand in the meantime, but we still don’t get what’s up with the P30 leap.

The mystery is intensified by the lack of images and price details for the P30 family, although a few key specs and color options seem to be out of the bag. The “regular” Motorola P30 (or Moto P30, that part is also unclear) should see daylight in “Aurora”, “Bright Black”, and “Ice Jade White” paint jobs, as well as 64 and 128GB storage configurations, with a flat 6GB RAM likely to put a smile on the faces of hardcore multitaskers.

Meanwhile, the Moto P30 Play, which is presumably a lower-end variant, could come with a single combination of 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, as well as two hue choices: Ice Jade White and Bright Black. Finally, a (larger?) Motorola P30 Note was listed in Bright Black only, packing 4 or 6GB RAM, and accommodating just 64 gigs of data. Hopefully, we'll find out what the Motorola P30's deal is on August 15, when the Moto Z3 is also set to expand to China.
