Motorola DROID 4 makes appearance in Verizon's computer system

0. phoneArena posted on 07 Nov 2011, 20:15

Just the other day, we got a look at some photographs of the Motorola DROID 4 and already we find the device inside Verizon's internal testing system; what we can tell from the leaked screenshot is that the Motorola DROID 4 will be equipped with LTE connectivity, but it will not be a world phone...

yeah sure ill go for it.. I like the physical keyboard ... but i hope they have improved the feel of that keyboard.. I have found that the droid 1 2 &3 all fail on keyboards.. LG ally was the best keyboard for me.

Wow, I thought I was the only one. The LG ENV was the first QWERTY I ever used and actually got me into texting. I haven't seen anything close on an Android slider yet, and I would buy it. I look at that Droid 4 picture and see at least 1/2 inch on both sides of the keyboard, so why oh why did they cram those keys so close together?

Produce a dual core, 1GB RAM 'everything' phone with a spacious keyboard like the LG ENV, and you'll have something Verizon. Maybe then I'll stop protesting getting a new phone and pay that extortionist $300 you're now charging for high powered phones.

just get a Droid 3 if the keyboard, the power and the price is all that really matters.

The Droid 1 keyboard isn't that bad. With hardware keyboards, all you really have to do is learn the nuances of it and then you'll have it mastered. I think anyone who can type on a desktop QWERTY without looking at the keyboard can accomplish this...

I've always managed just fine with texting on most phones. That includes using T9 on feature phones, the Samsung Alias 1 keyboard (which, surprisingly, has been my fav hardware keyboard thus far), and my current Droid 1.

As far as software keyboards go, they are (mostly) only as good as the multi-touch sensor. I've used stock Eclair/Froyo/Gingerbread, HTC, the older and slightly newer Swype, Swiftkey X, Better keyboard...

I have not yet tried the KB on Droid 3 but it looks better than 1.

Still not convinced it's Super AMOLED. That photo sure looks like an LCD to me... unless it's a gray background. Would be pretty disappointing if the only difference between the D3 and D4 was double the RAM and LTE.

Looks like the QWERTY to end all QWERTYs though. Which at the rate they're hitting the market might be true.

Having owned the droid 1. I have to say other than gaming the physical keyboard is a waste. I type a lot faster on the touch keyboard.

that is definitely a matter of opinion. I came from 2 keyboarded phones and am about 6 months into my first touch screen only phone and I could start my own "auto correct nightmares" website. I can't wait to get rid of this thing. I like a phone that's a little thicker, I find its easier to hang on to. I also like the option to use the on screen when I am sending a short text but have the physical keyboard when I have longer work emails when accuracy is a must.

OG Droids physical keyboard design was pretty bad. it was often slower to type on the kb than the virtual kb.

Yeah, my whole plan for Verizon to get a Droid 3 cheap and wait on a good WP will be shot. I would grab this guy, paint an Android on my chest, enjoy the LTE and 4GB Verizon goodness and never look back.

Best laid plans of Mice and Men ....

The thing for me is I am not a major fan of any one phone maker over the next. The thing that does have my attention is Motorola's webtop feature. That puts me in a postion where I pretty much have to choose a Motorola phone to get the webtop feature. As mentioned before I'm not biased towards one phone maker over another. I want Samsung's Galaxy screen size but I want Motorola's webtop feature (keyboard and mouse of course). Does anybody know if any other phone manufacturer's are coming out with there own webtop-like feature or am I stuck sticking to only Motorola to get something like the webtop. I saw something about a webtop-like device for the Evo 4g but the description did not say anyting about keyoard/mouse connections, plus it seemd like it was only for EVo 4g. ????????????????? I will post this same comment on a few other threads in case no one see's it here so don't be annoyed if you see this post on 6-7 other threads!!! (maybe more if I don't get a response)

i dont think i have seen the webtop feature on any other phone other then motorola phones. htc & pantech don't have a phone with hdmi out, samsung droid charge does not support it, lg revolution has nothing to support webtop app. i hope they put that feature in tablets as well so you can use the screen as a mouse and keyboard just based on size.

i did used it on my bionic so far and it allowed me to watch hulu with no problem. you can definately play facebook games with full support of the firefox browser which a customer had done and was thrilled to see it work on a 55" TV. only downside is if you had running programs in the background it holds up the ram, so you will need to restart the phone then use webtop. and make sure you dont open up alot of tabs.

I would consider it, even though I have gone through a D1 than VZW upgraded me free of charge to a D2 due to keyboard issues, still not fixed so now use the D2G in white over a yr. and half.

After GB update I very satisfied with the durability for Moto's Droid phones. Its just the implementation for Froyo was buggy as hell.
I actually love the keyboard, as I type so much faster and more accurate than the touch screen one. I no longer need to look at the screen when texting during class. but now its considered a mid range phone and I usually want a top of the line model, so may have to go all touch screen.

It is looking like VZW is on a 6 month technology replacement cycle for high end Android handsets....

kind of. it's lived a fairly long life. the Droid 3 has served me well over the last few months. definitely the best phone i've ever had. i'm hoping i'll be able to pull off a warranty replacement for a Droid 4 some weeks after it comes out.

I'll pass till Moto comes out with an HD display and ICS. At this rate, I'm thinking Feb/March leaks, April announcement, and June release.
