Motorola DROID 2 to launch August 23rd with Android 2.2?

With the Motorola DROID X getting a July 15th launch at Verizon, the next question is, when would the sequel to the highly successful DROID make its way out the door? Android and Me has a source they call "trustworthy" who says that August 23rd will be the date that the DROID 2 is launched. And  the model will be powered by Android 2.2. After all, those who have had the phone in their hand have said that the hardware looks complete. And leaked Verizon internal communication papers state that the first-gen DROID should be getting its Froyo upgrade in late July. You do the math, folks. Much of the DROID 2 is the same as the original model, but there is the matter of that 1GHz TI OMAP 3640 processor, nearly twice the speed as the chip in the first one. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, benchmark tests that they have run show the DROID 2 to be the fastest Android device. No pricing was revealed, but with the DROID X going for $199.99 after a $100 mail-in-rebate and a 2 year contract, we wouldn't expect the phone to go for a penny more.
