500$ for this? Would you pick this or the LG G6 for the same price. Battery life will obviously differ. Keeping that aside.

A phone that lasts all day is a lot more appealing than a phone I have to charge by lunch. I don't see the G6 having better battery than my V20. Also, all reports say that the first gen Z Play runs just as well as the Z and Z Force so, really, what benefit do the higher end phones have?

Smaller update? You serious? Go recheck the phone specs again.. The shape (specially the silver color), new 626 chipset and the CAMERA .. And yes, how i forget about the new mods.. You are ugly doesn't mean other things also.. Go check how tempting the new shapes are specially the silver color

I'm glad we got my dad the Z Play instead of waiting for this very minor updated phone.

And the smaller battery is a real bummer.

Completely agree. Them old folks need all the battery they can get and my dad is one of them. :D

You realize that this "smaller" battery will still power this phone longer than any other phone, right?

That may be so, but I doubt that battery life will be better than the Z Play. We'll find out in a few months but a 15% decrease on battery size isn't an upgrade.

The z play was so bulky. I am glad they reduced the size, changed the shape and improved the camera with new chip set.. The battery will do great as well. Remember its all about software optimization

you broked my heart moto, atlest you could have given 3300mah battery, waiting for moto X 2017 i hope this phone won't let me down with less battery

3300 would peobably inflate the phone's thickness. Anyway, 3000mAh on a 5.5mm body isn't that bad. Compare it to a iP7+ which I think would be the best phone for this comparison, it has a 2900mAh cell in a vastly larger shell than the Z2. I'm surprised they even fit 3000 on a body that thin.

I'm sorry, but who asked for a smaller thickness in a phone which has the battery as its biggest advantage?

This is probably the best news for Blackberry/TCL as people who were thinking $550 was too much for a Snapdragon 625 device may be considering it now since it offers a larger 3500 mAh battery.

But somehow for BB it didn't translate into that great a battery life. I feel that this makes more sense. The 626 benches better so it'll perform better, and I think Moto will be able to extract about 10 hours of SoT with this one so it's battery endurance will be on par with the Droid Turbo but not as insane as the Z Play.

Except it did. The Blackberry KeyOne lasts just one hour less in the PA battery life test than last years Moto Z Play (which the Z Play has an AMOLED display versus the LCD of the KeyOne). And Motorola quoted last years Z Play to last 20 hours longer than this years. Considering that is coming from the manufacturer (who always try to prop up their products) this will translate to a huge hit in review tests.

Also the 626 only represents up to 10% better performance which I doubt the end user will notice the difference between the 625. And both the 625 and 626 are built on the same process.

It looks like little upgrade over g5plus not over z play.I had g5 plus and it has nice battery life.Moto z2 play must be the best battery phone of moto lineup but thats not the case here. Its better to opt for upcoming moto x instead of moto z2 play.

Motorola has really lost its way. The Moto mods are ruining their base phones, they must make them thinner and thus ruin battery life. Plus the same boring shape for many years to come.

Why make it thinner with a smaller battery and big camera bump? No one wants that. Then I can go buy a battery mod for more money that will just make it really thick so I can have the battery life that it should have had it the first place. Great plan Lenovo

"The dual-pixel auto focus is one of the most notable new additions: this means the phone will be much faster to acquire focus, so you have less blurry images in your camera roll." Do you guys even know how a camera works? Focus faster will result in taking a picture faster, it won't do anything about a blurry photo, you need better shutter speed and/or stabilization for that.

yes it will. if for some reason focus is lost or you have a moving object, fast focus will allow you to take pictures with less blur.

It won't have less image blur. It would just be out of focus. Image blur is from a moving subject and a low shutter speed. Or a long exposure with no ois. A picture being out of focus.... Is just out of focus. It could be called out of focus blur I guess.

Phonearena just got their "goes official" page up while The Verge already has its review up. Talk about being late to the party.

Still pumping out phones with ugly, wide top and bottom bezels. Deal breaker for me, not to mention smaller battery. Some stupid design decisions again.
