Moto G6 users in the US should get ready for Android 9.0 Pie update
Motorola has recently developed a habit of discreetly rolling out software updates for its Android-powered smartphones, casually publishing full release notes for major OS makeovers like build 9.0 on the company’s official support webpages instead of making noise on social media or composing boastful blog posts.
That’s how we found out about the stable Android Pie goodies delivered to the Moto G6 Plus a little over a month back, followed by the Moto Z3 not long ago, and now the “regular” Moto G6.
Before you get too excited, it’s worth pointing out that the actual rollouts tend to follow a few days or even weeks after these changelogs are posted, although on the bright side of things, Moto G6 users in Brazil reportedly started receiving the update a couple of weeks back.
While there were still a couple of issues requiring last-minute optimization, we have every reason to believe Android 9.0 Pie deployment will kick off very soon in the US, including January 1 security patches and minimal system instability.
There’s nothing special or out of the ordinary to expect in terms of upgrades, enhancements, and tweaks, at least based on Motorola’s official changelog. That features everything from adaptive battery and adaptive brightness functionality to quick settings improvements, enhanced audio controls, new and updated emoji, notification UI changes, general performance and power efficiency improvements, Wi-Fi optimizations, and so on.
The price point of the Android 9-ready Moto G6 is definitely unusual, especially with Sprint activations over at Best Buy. Even at $200 or so, this is one of the most affordable phones brought up from Android Oreo to Pie so far, not to mention its specifications hold up well, even if you consider the G7 that’s right around the corner.
