Mobile OS comparison: Windows Phone 8 vs iOS 6.0 vs Android 4.1

Microsoft's Windows Phone was met with rave reviews from day one of its launch back in late 2010, but despite its beautiful and smooth UI it hasn't caught up with users. One way or another, part of the blame for this was some immaturity of the platform - multitasking arrived later...

I have to say how much is Microsoft paying you for the bs. If these stupid articles keep appearing on this site I will quit coming here. Almost no one wants to by windows phone and you try to make it sound so great. Have you tried the camera? I will never again own a windows phone. Android or IOS are both light years ahead and this site should admit they are just advertising of Microsoft. Please. O more Bull Sh__!

Chill. This is a mobile news site, they post all mobile news, which include WP. Since there was a WP event, they are posting more WP news than usual. And honestly, I would rather have WP than iOS. It's alright to express your opinion, but don't go accusing this site of being paid to endorse WP when all their doing is providing coverage of an event, and asking for feedback from their viewers. If you don't like it, go to another website, or come back in a day or two when this WP excitement has gone down. Alot of people are interested in Windows, they are just waiting for it to mature a little bit.

I wonder if BB10 will be enough to redo this poll or even make a dent?

The reasons Android wins in the polls and in sales are numerous. Mainly the open source capabilities, but something to think about. A lot of Android users choose it because they spend a lot of time digging deeper into the phones capabilies. Most iphone people are casual users and don't even spend that much time digging into their phones, let along spending time on phone tech websites.

iOS eye-candy wise, it's very appealing, oh yes you can't complain about the number of apps. Android for it's openness and the many devices available. WP7 for it's metro-style interface and eye-candy.

It won't be long now that apple will take Nokia to court sue them for patent ; )

That already happened... two years ago. They really have no need to try again now, seeings Nokia is basically in the process of choking on its own vomit.

I really like the functionality and UI of WP but Android just has the better features.

Some issues with your list: 1. "Zune" software probably won't exist with widows 8, so you won't really be using it for file management. I imagine WP8 will have a completely new file system control. 2. If 7.8 is for current 7.5 devices why will it have support for multi-core processors since no current 7.5 devices are multi-core? The same goes for 7.8 supporting high res displays- or do you consider 800X480 high res? 3. One of the major demos for this announcement was voice both at the system and app level- what makes Siri smart but not this? 4. Also demoed was full multitasking, not limited, available to all developers.

WRONG Android 4.0 DOES have offline maps by pre-caching a map area. It is made for going abroad for where there is no connection. To do this you go on maps > options / context menu > settings > labs > precache map area

If it was only iOS or Windows OS i would choose Windows OVER iOS. But I'm glad i have ANDROID OS.

Hey! Hey! Hey! Stop arguing with each other instead make comments to those companies. Just remember that you should thank those companies because as they compete with each other the more features are created, and we should benefit from it. You should realize that because of them our way of communicating is better than before. Assume! If without competition, definitely all the boring issue is in you right now, so let them work, compete and bring out the most excellent stuff they can present to us.

@King Herald, totally agree and keep stating this every time my friends engage in an I phone vs android argument. However, I do have a beef with the patent wars getting out of hand, Apple especially seams to be set on litigating instead of innovating.

I think it was kind of irresponsible of Phone Arena to make this chart on the crux of a new release from Google. Android 4.1 does have some new features, including offline maps which is marked "no" here. Jelly Bean is the newest version of Android if Windows 8 is the newest version of Windows Phone.

you updated it wrong, android 4.1 doesn't have flash support

That questionary wasn't decentl made because most people who come to phonearena.com come to check out new android phones because they come out everyday! While iOS fans go to sites like idownloadblog.com because there's only one iPhone released everyday!

I have read a lot of stuff on here that sounds like little kids that dont know what they are talking about. First I am sending this on an ICS Samsung tablet. I have used Android and Apple I OS, many of both. My feelings are that I OS is smother, the games are more polished and it doesnt mess-up as much. Even ICS has been having some problems on my tablet. If you Want change things around and play Andrid is your pick. As for windows I must admit I hate microsoft and will not buy their products. Now as to law suits, copy rights have a reason for being and if found to be legit should be protected. You must admit with out I Phone the smart phone would not be what it is today.

Symbian Belle latest version was forgotten in the above comparison. Many of the shortcomings in iOS, Windows, Android is easy present in Belle. And when I compare my iPad with my Nokia 701 the Nokia has perhaps less, but sure more better or usefull apps. Some of the better things of the Nokia Belle: ease of use, widgets, connection between contactslist and maps, arrow keys, filemanager, musicstore, DLNA, VPN, free offline maps, full acces of bluetooth to pictures, music.

Current contract runs out soon on BB9810. Really very interested in Samsung Note 2 because the big screen allows me to have a very mobile device to read books, the papwrs, games,You T stuff with a fast processor and awesome battery. Love my N9-so rugged and versatile with great in car navigation. Real shame Nokia dropped MeeGo,a terrific O/S.

You got some extremely important issues extremely wrong !!! Wrong: - Performance - Offline maps You forgot: - Microsoft Office - Changes of OS version - Security ------------------------------------------------------------ Performance Only expensive 300$+ android phone show good performance and smooth experience. A windows 130$ phone is faster and smoother than the android 300$ adversary. --- Offline maps Everything available for Android is only a laugh compared to Nokia propriatary Here maps solution. --- Microsoft Office Office software is extremely important for the business. There is nothing for android, that would be even comparable to Microsoft Office. Document editing and similar on android is as of today just playing with toys. Microsoft office is the only serious office software available for phones. This is a clear "minus 10" for android. You get this great and unique software FOR FREE with the Nokia Lumia !!! --- Changes You forgot we get every 5-6 months a new android operating system. Software is often not compatible between the versions. --- Security 99% of viruses that exist for mobile are programed for android. This is an extremely important issue. And the main reason I’d never buy android for professional applications. The android software is only suitible for childreen and everyday use. You can’t put valuable data on it, because it is to dangerous. You can't use it for payments for the same reason.
