I own a Lumia 920...and the support from Microsoft is very limited and slow, all updates are from Nokia...so I guess they are doomed?

No, they're not doomed. Nokia isn't disappearing, it's being acquired. If anything, the unification of Nokia and MS should increase the support you receive.

The reasons why MS bought Nokia's Devices and Service read it fr WPCentral Blog sounds plausible...Now,begins the Patent war or stopping some arrogant companies of refusing another OS fr accessing their services

Wow what a work by Elop..worked for Microsoft, took over the greatest phone manufacturer, systematically lowered it's value for years, now Microsoft can have it for fraction of the previous price. Sad day for Finland and Europe

OMG!!! I always hope everything will be better for Nokia after Elop leaves the company but who know Elop take everything to Microsoft. so bad Elop, he brings nokia down and down to get his goal. Everything is Elop and Microsoft's strategy not Nokia's. There is no chance to see Nokia with android. It's really a bad news!!!

isn't $7 billion too small? that's just like 7 sony NY buildings and i was expecting nokia has more assets than that. not to mention the technology they have developed over the years.

This was probably what Steve Ballmer had in mind when he announced that Microsoft's new direction as a devices and services and services company. And Given his retirement now officially announced it is was probably time for him to fit in the device(nokia) for his vision to come to fruition.Since Microsoft is till more of services than devices(Barring Xbox and the meagre surface). In my Opinion this is a win win for both assuming Microsoft don't manage to screw up this time around. And if they do screw up they tehy'll be screwed up forever.

Welp, there's the ball game. I was really hoping Nokia would break free of its Microsoft chains and branch out to include Android, but it looks like they'll be saddled with Windows Phone for the duration of their existence. It feels to me like Microsoft watched Google buy Motorola, help develop the Moto X (which everyone and their brother is saying is the best thing to come out of Android in a long time) and said "Well, we should get our own unstable device manufacturer!" And thus, the Nokia buyout. Of course, if Microsoft would just stop being such asswipes to Google, I wouldn't really mind if they sold more devices.

Microsoft paid more for Skype than they paid for Nokia. No more HTC or Samsung WP devices. Microsoft is going then way of Apple.

is nokia really that cheap? that's what you get for being a windows phone dependent. had nokia adopted android, there would have been some leverage for them. they could have asked for a higher price. such a shame how a device maker is acquired for a price lower than skype's. now finland, you've just lost perhaps your only famous brand.

It's not. Microsoft is only buying a part of the company.

Folks Nokia's board let it be known for awhile now that they would sell out their smart phone business and etc if the price was RIGHT! Microsoft did the right thing to buy them before Google or Apple bought Nokia out . If Google got Nokia then Windows 8 smart phones would be DEAD! because Nokia makes the best and sells the most Windows 8 smart phones. Microsoft can always sell Nokia to someone else in the future and make some money off this deal. Now the smart thing for Microsoft to do is treat Nokia like they did Skipe let the Nokia experts design and get the Nokia smart phones made ready for sale with the Nokia brand name on them. Microsoft will just be a Parent company letting Nokia do it's thing.and MS make the profit.

Nokia has been Jamaica's number 1 brand since 1998. we are Nokia People. 7 out of every 10 phones here is a Nokia, its the most trusted brand. Microsoft on the other hand does not have a good reputation here no1 uses internet explorer.
