Microsoft shares plunge over 11% after Microsoft Surface RT inventory write-down, earnings shortfall

Shares of Microsoft plunged 11.4% on Friday, closing down $4.04 to $31.40; for Microsoft, it was the sharpest one-day decline of the company's shares in 11 years and came after the company reported its quarterly earnings. Yes, Microsoft earned nearly $5 billion for the three month period, but a $900 million write-off of Microsoft Surface RT tablets held in inventory rattled investors...

win8 is better than win7. No need to use the metro interface if you dont have a thouch screen

You don't need to use the metro interface if you don't want to. My point of view, W8 is miles better than W7, but people are afraid of change and lazy to learn.

And people were saying BlackBerry had a bad quarter... I guess no one had a good quarter. BlackBerry, Microsoft, Google, Nokia... Admittedly some were better than others though.

Anyone who follows the stock market knows ot is a knee jerk reaction a good 60% of the time. This is one of those. Yes, MS hasn't had a clear vision of where they were going for a while, but the company is getting everything in the same boat and all the oars pointed the right way to row in the same direction. For a company as large, rich, and successful as MS that is not a small task. This drop is due to one products failure, not the failure of the new vision. This stock will recover.

I think MS has to fight on more fronts than any other company right now. I can't imagine how hard it would be and the incredibly smart folks. RT being the only failure, price and confusion on what it was but the product isn't any different that what other tablets were offering other than apps. I'm personally liking W8 on my pro and think any of you noobs who say its difficult to do this or that should be embarrassed to call yourself a tech person.. It's about the easiest OS I've ever used besides what apple is doing. If you think W8 is difficult then you need to stop typing and do something more simple like UNO or go fish

I thin Win8 is a lot better than Win7(which until Win8 came out was the best Windows ever made). There is a massive difference in speed between Win8 and Win7, the booting is a lot faster, virus and malware protection is better, because of having the windows essentials built in defender there is no need for a third party antivirus. I really don't know why people keep bragging about it.

the stocks will rebound in a couple months, and all of you that say MS is in trouble will be no where to be found. they still profited $4.97 billion. that doesnt sound like a company in a tail spin. it's the stock market we are talking about. stock go up and down. it's the nature of the market. all companies go through it. doesnt mean it's the end of them.
