And imagine where they both would be without Palm, BB and the old Win Mo? MS did their part already spurring on innovation and the future. They just waited too late to join in on that future. The main reason the orig iPhone was so different is beacuse of what Palm, BB and MS had out at the time. Then along comes Google with Android...takes some of the Apple approach and sprinkles in some of the MS approach....and we have Palm gone, and BB and Win Mo on their last legs.

WP is only faster today because of the way WP apps operate. The vast majority of apps for WP ecosystem are compiled and optimized for Qualcomm ARM hardware architecture. Those WP apps and its ecosystem cannot run on x86 hardware. However MS is bringing Universal apps and is going the route of what Android has already brought to the table. In other words Microsoft wants to bring a device agnostic ecosystem to their portfolio. Which is very similar to what Android has been doing since day one. The major difference here is Android already brings a vast ecosystem of device agnostic apps. Where as Windows 10 (Mobile) is starting out again. Remember the current WP ecosystem is NOT device agnostic. The vast majority of WP apps cannot run on any x86 device, and are exclusive to only run on Qualcomm ARM hardware. So when developers write a Universal app that will run on x86 and ARM hardware, then the Universal runtime kicks in to compile the app for what ever hardware Microsoft's Universal runtime is running on at the time (looks very similar to Android, doesn't it). The other thing to note here is Microsoft's Universal app are exclusive to Microsoft platforms ONLY. It's kind of funny that Microsoft uses the word Universal, however Android is more Universal then Microsoft's Universal runtime and apps. The only way Microsoft can truly be Universal is to release a Universal runtime for other platforms like Android, Linux, iOS. OS/X. Then and only then will Microsoft be truly Universal. If Microsoft doesn't release runtimes for other platforms, then Android and its heart (Linux) will always dominate. Mark my words.

What you say is wrong in all ways why would you think that an arm based app can't run well on 86x/64x just look at all those Intel atom devices.

It is not as hard as you are trying to make it sound. here is a persons own experience going form x86 to arm before 8.1 was out, meaning it was not coded for universal from the start. however, with MS tools you simply convert it and make some error checks. From his experience, 15mins for those errors, not some monumental task.

If it wasn't dead, he just killed it with this massive layoff. He doesn't see so many complaints about the apps?

You are serious? 3-4% worldwide marketshare 5 years after the introduction of new touch windows 7. Bought NOKIA, still dropping. Payed s**t loads of money to OEM's to roll out WP phones and almost no one cares. Takes you over a year and half to roll out a major update. App store is laughable compared to iOS and google play. Major apps still missing today, major apps without a single update in months. Yes MS you are very serious, we can see that.

Do you think MS controls the apps? Updates, their updates come out as needed. Unlike a patch worked OS, yes I call it that from the number of 'bug fixes' that fix bugs of the bugs it just introduced to fix bugs that fixed. Lets not forget that updates to other OS is dependent on carrier more than anything, you still have dev preview to bypass them. Or insider now. No one cares because the people on the ground selling them tell lies left and right. I have gotten employees in trouble for telling said lies because we cannot tell lies about the products being sold. App count is the biggest hurdle. However, PA does a piss poor job at anything windows app related, hell even in this article. Want windows app news...head over to windowscentral, they know how to post daily app news.

Yeah, we believe that anything else other than iOS is DOA for you. Wait, why am I replying to Troll Bot which doesn't have any life anyway?

But no....many claim no one makes money with Android....except Samsung. But hey...what do we know...we are just all Android fanboys...never mind the factual information out about how bad WP, WIn Mo is doing.

Well I think it's the least confusing UI out there I'm sure reaching apps are harder other OSes for me UI is a gateway to reach apps nothing more.

WP 7? nope... WP 8? nope... Win 8.1? nope... WP 10?... sure i want Microsoft to succeed but after 5 years of barely penetrating the market worldwide, it's gonna take a lot of effort for Microsoft. It's just funny seeing these fanboys saying the same thing every year that the next iteration of WP will be the next game changer... I do respect them for great optimism though...

Yes, it's true :) I'm a fan of WP too. I think WP 11 will be a game changer ;) but I guess there won't be a WP 11, because there won't be any employee left at Microsoft's WP department
