Since the Microsoft Surface RT was opened up for pre-orders on October 16th, shipping dates have been pushed back in some caases by as much as three weeks; thus far it seems that buyers are going after the 32GB model without a cover...

I dont go by Select COUNT (*) of apps. I dont need it for watching movies or playing games. More of a tech so don't use these devcies for such non productive work and hence RT is far better than iPAD ...

redhot because its sold out? no actual numbers or anything beyond a message on the page? Sorry but being sold out does not mean its popular. Till we have hard numbers. For all we know they only had 100k that could be pre-ordered . Once it hits the stores and starts to sell then we can gauge it. But I know I wont be one of them. Hope fully it is popular but I fear the ipad mini will kill it .

I believe I have decided to go for the RT since I am just going to upgrade my laptop to windows 8 and it runs well. I need something for school that can run office and be an entertainment center when I'm in between classes. I really hope we have emulator developers ready to make apps because I love playing my old school Super Nintendo games while waiting around.

People loved the first iPad, but there was clear evidence that most people wanted a Windows device that would replace existing hardware. I'm one of those. And MS delivers! Just two and a half years later. I'm not interested in the "light" version that is RT. Plus I'll likely wait before buying the full "Pro" version to avoid the inevitable h/w and s/w bugs (and the early adopter tax).

One more thing. I'm not scared off by the mixed Win 8 reviews. I do wonder if the interface translates well in scaling up from smartphone (where it's great, esp for beginners) to full screen (where it seems very, very cluttered)

The problem is people don't know what windows RT really is. All those pre-orders are for people who think windows RT is Windows 8. I see a major disaster coming.

That's the problem when there are not professional reviews before the release of a product, people get misinformed. I'm still skeptical, for me there must be a reason why M$ has been tight lipped with their tablet

Every-one will notice it, but they will still prefer and go for the iPad3 or N7.®©

Ah yes, the "red hot pre order" story. I usually find that a red hot pre order story means interest is low. I'll wait for actual sales figures thanks.
