Microsoft Surface Phone rumor resurfaces, to hit the shelves by next summer

0. phoneArena posted on 01 Oct 2012, 04:32

Microsoft is apparently hedging its bets throughout the spectrum, letting Samsung's ATIV S be the first WP8 device announced, not a Nokia phone, and working with HTC's designers for a year over the look and feel of the 8X and 8S phones. Now it might turn out that Redmond is developing its own hardware to achieve full vertical integration, just like Apple does, further down the road, when it gains enough manufacturing experience...

MS has really upped its game in innovation and creating awessome software!
Now its coming in the hardware segment...other manufacturers are really going to have to up their game if they want their brand's WP phones/tablets to sell.

All in all another good day for thee consumer :)

that would be nice but I don't believe MS can nail it, just look what happened with their music player.

oh c'mon thats being harsh.
in business big corporations launch stuff all the time and only a few make it big. thats how it works. I am an android user but I know of manny projects google worked on in the past that never got to see the light of day! but we know google for what they have been successful about and thats alright. same goes for MS. a company cant get everyhting right but hey its good they're trying and who knows...they might hit the jackpot:)

Look at apple also for instance they make crappy stuff all the time and release them to the masses too :)

The music player is old news literally. No company is without a failure of some type but it depends on if they learn from it or not. And since then clearly Microsoft has done one heck of a job learning from the music player. So again, old news.

The Zune was awesome, it just didn't get much track, much like Windows Phone right now which I really hope does better, I'm an Android user right now but competition would be good, competition on innovation mind you, not in the court room, since it's obvious that's the only field where the fruit company will compete on

the zune was better than the ipod, it just didn't have the cool factor.

half of nokia is own by MS.the CEO and millons of dollars for marketing of WP from MS.
still MS wants to launch their own surface phone.i think they want to keep more options on the table but its definitely going to hurt Nokia sales.i think MS is using Nokia for WP.

Yeap for sure Windows 8 will be a fail, look at what happen to the Windows OS in the past years: Fail, it has been 8 years and still there no where near iOs and OS! Eflop wants to take Nokia totally down, cause Eflop was an ex MS employe and MS always hated LINUX.

It is not that Nokia or the other manufacturers(HTC, Samsung) not want to use multi core processors. It is WP7 and WP7.5 do not support multi-core and higher resolution. That is the fault of MS, NOT NOKIA. It did not pan out because of microsofts WP7 limitations.

I for one switched from iphone 4 to Nokia Lumia 900 and couldn't be happier. And waiting to get the Lumia 920. (hopefully only 5 more weeks waiting time)

If and when, IF there is a surface phone, even better, more options for WP8.

again like I said before bring it!!!! if they do this it will only have a repeat of the surface tablet. OEMs got scared and started pumping out some nice designs making it hard to decide what to get. I want OEMs to make it hard to chose what wp to get too

if there smart it will be: initial release> surface phone during first OS update> xbox 720 with enhanced phone integration during the second update> wp8 update and "something else"> wp9 with next gen phones.

I would love to see a surface phone, but not necessarily manufactured by Microsoft. I want how google did it with Nexus devices. A surface phone made by a separate OEM, that given, Nokia would be my bet. Imagine a perfectly designed phone from Microsoft and nokia with the build quality from nokia. That would be awesome.

If this phone isn't manufactured by Nokia, Nokia has definitely got a raw deal from MS. Kinda explains why I hate MS and Apple.

no Nokia is really close to MS, if Microsoft is working on a phone Nokia knows about it and is probably leasing the camera tech and other items to them... Nokia gets payed without overhead.

Like what PA said, I hope it acts in the same way as Nexus is for Google.

Nokia might just be the one to make the surface phone if this is true.

Why not... I know it might initially hurt Nokia, HTC, and Sammy... But it should make for more aggressive pricing AND/OR maxing specs!

Win-Win for consumers.

i think its a great idea to make a surface phone! its not bad at all as long as it will be like apple's one and only iPhone and google's nexus line... they should just release 1 surface phone every year! same goes with surface tablet!

as long as it wont hurt nokia and other windows phone makers!

some how I do not think a surface a smart phone will come into being unless Windows 8 smart phones do not sell well and Nokia and HTC are the only OEM's who will dare to make them. at that Point it would make sense for Microsoft to make them. I think what they are doing is exploring the smart phones surply industry to see what it takes to make one in quantities to make it profitable for Microsoft to make their own if It's Oem's give up on making windows smart phones. Microsoft is opening up stores all over the place and Microsoft like everyone else will sell products that have the Microsoft brand name on them for instance Microsoft was selling their Own PC known as the "Signature" PC I think Vizio made them oh well I guess Microsoft might get Samsung to make them for them
