Amazon and Microsoft team up to bring Skype calling to Alexa devices

Amazon and Microsoft announced two months ago that Skype calling will be made available to everyone using Alexa devices, but they didn't say when they'll release the new feature. Well, it looks like it took the companies two months to bring Skype calling to Alexa devices.

Starting this week, Skype calling is available to Alexa devices, allowing users to call friends and family on Skype or call mobiles and landlines in up to 150 countries worldwide. Moreover, for a limited time, Microsoft and Amazon throw in 100 minutes of free calls per month for two months for those who link Skype with Alexa.

If you already own an Alexa device and a Skype account, here is how you can benefit from the promotional offer:

• Set up your Alexa device using the Amazon Alexa App for Android or iOS.
• Go to Settings / Communication / Skype to link your accounts.
• Sign in using the same Microsoft account you use on Skype.

Once the setup process is complete, you can start using Skype calling by saying “Alexa, call Dad on Skype” or “Alexa, call [number] on Skype.” You can also answer calls by saying “Alexa, pick up.”

The new Skype integration with Alexa voice assistant is compatible with the following devices: Amazon Echo 1st Gen, Amazon Echo 2nd Gen, Amazon Echo Plus 1st Gen, Amazon Echo Plus 2nd Gen, Amazon Dot 2nd Gen, Amazon Dot 3rd Gen, Amazon Show 1st Gen, Amazon Show 2nd Gen, and Amazon Echo Spot.
