Well this is clearly a WP device, a Lumia. U cant expect any pureview, clear black like Nokia tech on their new "N" series Android devices until 2016.

You are wrong honey. Nokia still has all patents and technologies and they surely can use them on their own handsets.

They might have patent but they can't make one. In case of you don't know all these pureview and other Nokia Lumia features are under Microsoft control. I would like to see a Nokia Android as well . But a proper one with all these tech is not going to happen any time soon.

No Nokia doesn't, the tech is MS along with many Nokia top engineers, why do you insist on spreading ignorance and then duping those who upvote to believe such lies. Besides Microsoft also has Canon technology as well so expect a great device.

yes they can, but nokia can't name it pureview and clearblack now. they own the name not the technology.

Yeah, great device...with horrid branding and an even more horrid OS. Those Nokia designs and prototypes are almost gone, so good luck to Microsoft...

This would be Nokia lumia 1030 instead of Microsoft lumia 1030 :(

Awesome. Now just make it slimmer with an aluminium body.

Actually we do. These preview beasts(808,1020) are undisputed kings of smartphone cameras. All they have to do is make it slim as possible and better shutter speed time. Microsoft really need a flagship device.

Sadly, having a larger image sensor and making it slim doesn't come in both ways, not unless they defy physics.

Well then your categorization of 'we' is a minority. The sales of both 808 and 1020 have been embarassingly disappointing for Microsoft Mobile. They should really listen to the average consumers and fix its shortcomings rather then just making the phone thicker and increasing the MP count which beyond 40 is useless anyway. 'Undisputed king' doesn't mean anything if the bottomline sales is poor. Besides claiming Lumias, undisputed is a bit far fetched. Dxomark showed the Lumias to its rightful place. Awful video recording and oversaturated colours doesn't really make them an 'undisputed king'.

Well yeah, it is minority. Look this is a great tech. Give credit they deserves it. When I said undisputed king I wasn't talking about sales number or profit. I don't believe the best always sells the most. There might be alot of drawbacks for device but its camera is to notch. It is the best camera phone. But I do agree video recording is kinda bad. But other than that it is great camera. Especially those 5mp shots.

You do not owe tech2 an explanation, you got it spot on right the first time, "808 and 1020 are undisputed kings of smartphone cameras"

How is it 'undisputed' when the video recording capabilities are not good ? How is it 'undisputed' when it doesn't record 4k videos ? How is it 'undisputed' when it only records 1080p at 30fps ? How is it 'undisputed' when DxoMark, who carry out a very very extensive tests, it is not even in top 10 of best smartphone cameras (1020) ? How is it 'undisputed' when it takes 10 seconds to fire up the camera and take a picture ? The fact is, they were good when they were first released. However, in comparison to today's smartphone flagships they are far behind in terms of camera capabilities.

Why are you always so critical of all things MS?. All companies produce great tech live and let live.

I did said video recording is not that good. And you just pointed out 3 "how is it" drawbacks of video recording lol. Besides is there anything, any device without drawbacks? From my experience, it took best shots, day and night.

Exactly, now you're right 'from my experience' !! Don't pass your own judgement as 'undisputed king' when you haven't tried all other devices. That's your opinion but the truth is far from it. 'Besides is there anything, any device without drawbacks?' - There isn't that's why one should be careful when mentioning 'undisputed king'. Lumia 1020 is not a good all rounder. Its great in night shots but thats about it. In daylight Note 4/iP6+ takes the cake. You potray that it is far above competition which is a blatant lie. Lastly, you agreed video recording is not good but I was pointing out that it lacks several features. Those are two different arguments.

Does dxomark's king iPhone records in 4K? it still record sounds in mono I think. But still #1 in their list. Besides how long note 4 records in 4k? 5mins why? overheating and huge amount of space required. I can't comment on new iPhones because I haven't used them but note 4 camera in day light still doesn't impress me. its great but still prefer pureview shots (especially those 5mp photos which I already mentioned.). And you should use updated 1020 because there is huge improvements in camera quality. So back to your first comment, we do care. With expectations of improvements from its predecessors. There is reason why it packs such huge sensor and lens.

Top ten before any software updates that have improved the camera and before raw. The only low score was video yes. More people take pictures than videos, and even then the video is no slouch just not '4k'. As well numerous people have asked them to retest because of the bigger difference and they have all been denied stating....they dont retest camera's. Only camera-phone to be pitted against real cameras, not even the note 4 or others got that treatment. The low light xenon shots alone puts note 4's etc to shame. LED simply does not stand a chance in its current form. 10secs was total time to fire, shoot and save. In reality its about 6 seconds to fire up. Most people will fumble with the lockscreen or having to press the power and tap on the lockscreen if they have the camera put on the lockscreen in the first place. All the while the 1020 with its shutter-wake default will launch and take pictures. Negating most side effects of a longer time process. Far behind? more like, lacks 4k. Far behind means the sensor is weaker, the shots are worse, the xenon doesnt off benefit, and more. I dont think you know what far behind means. Also reframe zoom in/out is simply fun as hell and has proven itself worthy in many situations.

lol....You lost me at 'Only camera-phone to be pitted against real cameras, not even the note 4 or others got that treatment.' -That really is a daft argument. Just because its compared to a 'real' camera doesn't automatically make it a better cameraphone then others. I can link you couple of videos in which Note 3 outperforms DSLRs too but it really doesn't prove anything. Funny how you need to just single out '4k' when mentioning far behind. So what about 30fps 1080p ? 30fps is just too low by today's standards. I am not even talking about other feature this dinosaur has missing like quick autofocus, HDR in video, etc. It still take 10 secs to if I want to take a second picture doesn't it ? and in my experience almost everyone takes more then one pic of whatever or whoever. All other phones nowaways take 2 secs while in 10secs you are pretty sure to loose the moment which u wanna capture. Talk about taking things too far, 'xenon alone puts note 4 to shame'. I've owned a Cyber-shot and it is just too overpowering. In certain situations yes xenon is better but that is not always the case. But saying statements such as that really weakens your argument then anything else.

It's the undisputed king because I used one to take a picture of a hummingbird in midflight with all of its feathers clearly visible. There isn't another phone that can take a remotely comparable picture that I know of. I'd post the link, but it won't let me because of post counts. I've posted it on pocketnow half a dozen times before. Find any given 1020 article on there and you can track it down in the comments.

funny when they can't argue or accept the fact that a phone has something superb tech which they hate, they always brought up the argument in terms of sale which is invalid reasoning, this is tech site not marketing site or whatever you call it, i don't care about sales, i care about what a company will bring to the consumer.

Probably coz you don't know the meaning of 'undisputed' which he mentions. I am merely pointing out that not many people consider it a good phone except few tech sites. Hence, worthy of disputing if anything.

you definitely care seeing that you take your time to comment on something you clearly hate. dxomark is a bunch of fanboys, they tested the 1020 at start when it had a yellow tint issue but after that when it was fixed they never tested it again! but the main reason why they lose credibility is where they rate led flashed better than xenon flashes! and lastly how many times have the 1020 won comparisons???? all you can talk about is speed of shots and 4k, does the note4 process 41 million pixels? does the note have lossless zoom??? if you wanna troll at least be a bit more intelligent
