Microsoft CEO says some Nokia X devices will be revamped to Windows Phone ones

There are lot of news coming from Redmond today. For starters, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella's not-so-pleasant disclosure that the company will give the pink slips to roughly 18,000 workers (12,500 of which are former Nokia employees)...

To do what? The article certainly drew android huggers. Which is what most articles of MS do here. I mean come on look at the comments left on this article... In any rate this was expected, it is not like Google Kept EVERY employee from Motorola....

Umm, it drew Android huggers because Nokia X uses the Android OS. Well, in a bad way because there is no Google apps or services. Not to mention no access to the 1.5 million play store apps. But I guess now Microsoft can leave Android alone. It specifically doesn't need Microsoft in the mix. I think Google has Android covered pretty good.

While it isn't Google's version of Android, it's no worse than what Amazon is doing with their devices. Both MSs and Amazon's take on Android is the whole point behind AOSP, to take the open source version of Android and do what you want with it. That's what everyone seems to misinterpret. Google's version of Android isn't AOSP. AOSP doesn't include Google's services, including the Playstore. So if someone takes AOSP and forks it, they don't have access to the Playstore. In MS and Amazon's case, that isn't an issue since they have their own app store. Google's version of Android isn't open source, you can't fork it and do whatever you want to it, and still have access to Google's services, including the Playstore. While they allow some customization (UI skins, preloaded apps, etc.) there is certain point OEMS can't go beyond and still have access to Google's services. So while MSs version of Android isn't the same as Google's, it's not using Android in a bad way, in fact what they're doing is the whole point of AOSP,to take Android and make it how you want it. The only two things I see that seem a little off to me is 1. If MS is advertising the X as running Android, hoping that people will assume that Google services are on board, as a selling point. That would be a form of bait and switch. 2. Why use Android when they have their own OS already. It would make it seem that they aren't confident in their own OS. This is being resolved by the actions MS is taking in this article. But saying MS is using Android in a bad way is incorrect. They're using AOSP in the way it was intended, to use as open source however the end user sees fit.

I was wondering, if I got Nokia X, and then upgraded to WP, can I sue Microsoft?

Lets get it straight. Symbian was in decline, but Nokia still had a large a large piece of the pie. Haven't said that, Elop was sent in to destroy the company. He did, and now you see the fruits of. The average american should not hate on Nokia so badly. They weren't the king of the hill for 11 years for nothing. And what other product in still on the market for 10 years ago that still works good. Know this, had Nokia made a real, high end Android, they could have stayed on top. Also, apple got some of their optimization practices from Nokia. Look, every dog has his day. Even the mighty Android wont be on top forever. You'll see in a litte while. I build and work on towers for all of the cell phone companies. I know how the game works. I want you to know, had Elop not killed Meego, some of you simple mined people wouldn't be having this conversation

I predict that there will be 2 models of the Microsoft "X-class Android open source smart phones on the market. one will be the current "X2" and the Other will be an "X2" with updated specs above the Microsoft X2 Android smart phones current specs that will sport a lumia 920's camera and will be sold in all Markets including the USA. Look for it to appear just by September or October 2014. Microsoft knows Android smart Phones sell and will sell a couple of models to get back some of the 7 Billion dollars the spent to buy some of Nokia's smart phone assets. I call the X2 Android smart phone a Microsoft smart phones now because MS CEO Mr Nadella's calling the shots now.
