Report: Samsung executive connected to Samsung Pay, Knox and Bixby leaves for Google
According to a report published on Tuesday, former Samsung Chief Technical Officer Injong Rhee is getting ready to join Google as an entrepreneur-in-residence. While at Samsung, the company he joined in 2011, Rhee worked on the Samsung Knox security platform for the enterprise. He also had a hand in mobile payment system Samsung Pay, and AI powered assistant Bixby.

Eventually, he was made the head of Samsung's R&D team 1, which worked on software and services. Inside a company that is mostly known for its hardware, Rhee was said to be widely respected as he moved up the ladder at Samsung. The three aforementioned features that he worked on continue to move forward at the company. Samsung Pay is widely accepted at most retailers thanks to its use of both NFC and Magnetic Secure Transmission. Bixby 2.0 has been unveiled, and Samsung wants to include Knox on other devices besides smartphones.

At Google, Rhee will be working on projects related to the Internet of Things. With his new position, he will report to Google Cloud CEO Diane Greene. Will Samsung miss having Rhee around? We might not be able to answer that question until several years pass.
