Trying to start a flame war while excusing yourself of responsibility....Bravo.

Still, at least there's the option of custom ROMs. They bring all new and modern features that can be implemented in the hardware with them. Even Apple doesn't do that, most of their older phones just get a version number bump, no new features and a hefty slowdown for some reason even though nothing new gets added.

It's almost as if it's native ROM. After all, the device had CyanogenOS preinstalled from factory and even cyanogen logo on the back.

The best ROM for the device is still probably SultanXDA's.

Apple supports its 5 year old devices which is undeniable fact and is great. But in doing so, it makes those phones really slow.

In comparison, most android users like myself install custom roms not just to get the latest OS version, but also to have maximum tinkerability with minimum footprint sans bloatware.

Android users with Kitkat can get along just fine as theur devices still support and run 99% of apps just fine.

I agree with you maintaining the device yourself (custom roms) because i did the same, but it still stinks that you are on your own once you buy that device.

My note 10.1 2014 edition is currently rocking Lineage OS 13 based on Marshmallow. With several apps open, only around 800 MB RAM is used. When i was on Touchwiz Lollipop, almost 1.2 GB RAM was used at boot up with average usage consuming 1.7 to 2.1 GB RAM.

The only reason I have not installed the Nougat based Lineage OS 14.1 is because it does not have the CM theme engine support and instead relies on Substratum which I find cumbersome to use and causes crashes.

Rocking a OnePlus One for 2.5 years and with resurrection remix, I see no need for a new phone. Mahbe OnePlus 4 or 2017 pixel, I don't know...

Same here, still my first and only Android device since 2014. Was really tempted to upgrade to a Note 7, but alas, nature said no.

Now phone oem are not only one to blame for no/delayed updates. Soc manufacturers like Qualcomm/mediatek are equally responsible.

Qualcomm dropped support for S801 and left one plus one deprived of official nougat update.

Anyway, I switched to iOS...and wish google keeps on making best android devices like pixel. I'd like have android device again.
