Leaked photos showcase HTC's upcoming hero phone, the 10 (M10?)

This is a HTC smartphone, alright, sporting a chiseled metal body, an arched back, and an overall shape and contour reminiscent of the company's flagship M8 and M9 phones...

Man. I don't know? What's really wrong here. They are doing some things right and some are just blasphemous (bottom speaker?!) I love that they still have the all metal body and HTC One esque look. But no front speakers is an atrocity. Looks like they are moving forward with USB C and a Samsungy home/finger scanner. This is pretty much the love child of the G5 and S7. Let's wait for the unveil to decide.

If its can adopt SD card as internal memory this baby is my next phone. LG G5 and S7 failed by removing the features completely and not making it possible to turn it on manually.

As you can not remove the sd card for anything, it's a bad idea to use it, this included new phone transfer, or if your phone goes wrong, But the sd card can be formatted and used in the s7 and so in with the same setting used, on phones that offer it and it does work, ther if you need this. But it's a bad move and I can see why Samsung made it not easy to do, so only the tech customer who is up on the risks to data can do it

Bad idea for your use. Not mine. I dont say to force it on for everyone just make it possible to use it if you need it. and nope you cant manually turn it on you need to root the freaking phone wich i wont do. By making a setting option deep in developer mode ect thats you can turn on then adopt the sd card i would have consider the G5 and S7 but now for those two its game over and if HTC follow and make it same way well f*** it :) The only bad move it to completely remove an option thats can be helpfull to some.

Again, is always a matter of personal opinion but that not centered home button/fingerprint scanner and the giant chamfered edges on the back look really horrible. The rest of the phone looks ok.

That 12MP ultrapixel camera would kick azz if it has large 2.0µm pixels and f/1.7 (or larger) aperture.

2.0 micron pixels are basically impossible on a phone with 12 MP camera. That being said. it will have 1.55 micron ones which are humongous and bigger than S7 or G5.

With OIS if the leak are correct this sound like amazing on paper at least.

"2.0 micron pixels are basically impossible on a phone with 12 MP camera." Impossible? Nah, just check with Sony to see if they haven't already made a bigger smartphone lens and image sensor combo. Even the lowly iPhone4 had 1.75µm pixels way back in 2010, that's why it took such excellent photos for the time.

The htc one m7 has 4 mp ( 2.0 micron pixels )

Did you read my comment: "2.0 micron pixels are basically impossible on a phone with 12 MP camera." Read that again, now again. Get it? A 2.0 µm pixel sensor on a 4 MP camera will be 3x smaller than one with 12 MP.

I deregistered for a week due to exams. When I resumed, PA's system told me that I can't get my old name back. So I had to make a new account. I sent them a mail but no reply yet.

"The htc one m7 has 4 mp ( 2.0 micron pixels )" @anotherfan Thanx for that well-known info.

iPhone 4 had a 5 MP camera. To scale that to 12 MP, you basically have to have a 1/1.8" sensor like the Nokia N8(also 1.75 µm pixels). To get 2 micron pixels, you need a 1/1.57" sensor. That's almost the size of lumia 1020 sensor. It's safe to assume we're not getting that sensor size in smartphones, at least not without an oreo on back. Before you tell that technology is evolving and that, you must note that optics doesn't evolve as it's limited to the laws of physics. All we can do is hope for better sensors which have as good quality in smaller sensor size as a larger one.

Herpy derp!

I didn't say impossible, I said 'basically impossible'. So back at you. Anything is possible. Lumix CM1 has large pixels in a 1" sensor. But I don't call this and 1020 as smart phones. They are just cameras with phone functionality. You have to draw the line somewhere. For example, there's a 'thing' called Samsung NX1. It is a full phone I'm it with android and all, but it can't be called a smartphone.

@tyrionTheWise "I didn't say impossible, I said 'basically impossible'. So back at you." Uh huh, keep backpedaling. So to you 'basically impossible' is the same as 'definitely possible' then? The 1020 phone actually exists = 'definitely 1000% possible' = NO WHERE NEAR 'basically impossible'. LOL! "But I don't call this and 1020 as smart phones. They are just cameras with phone functionality." Why not? What determines that phones are 'just cameras with phone functionality'? The 1020 has smaller dimensions and weighs less than a plain ol' HTC M8 so you can't say the 1020 is big and bulky like a stand-alone camera. Is it the big black 'oreo'? That's just some kind of ugly lens/flash cover. You can clearly see the lens is not actually that big and bulky, its size is comparable to any other phone's lens.

65. tyrionTheWise unregistered

Sure sure. They can't remove the oreo. No, you won't see a phone with that big a sensor without oreo. Do you think there's void behind that oreo? You're so f'ing wrong. I still won't call that a phone. The lens sticks out too much. Same with the lumix, or the 808. There's a reason for them to have that big an assembly. It's possible to stick something to the back, but no: we aren't going to see that anytime in modern phones. There's a lot more to a phone than camera, which means we aren't going to see that in non-niche phones. Just a question: you diverted the discussion to a useless point so that I 'lose it' and you win. Are you murican?

@tyrionTheWise "Just a question: you diverted the discussion to a useless point so that I 'lose it' and you win. Are you murican?" Pffft... I won the moment you utter the words 'basically impossible'. Does that make you mad? Good.

76. tyrionTheWise unregistered

Yeah, go have a party. Tell your friends that what am achievement you made by winning a useless debate by pointing something another person mistakenly wrote. Whatever makes you sleep at night. It's not your fault. Muricans are raised this way. No wonder trump is winning. Given the amount of grey matter you guys have, I wonder why someone dumber didn't ein previously. I'm not mad. I don't care if I win a debate on internet anyway. In fact, I rather lose a debate than to argue with half-wits like you who care about 'winning' on Internet.

@tyrionTheWise "I'm not mad. I don't care if I win a debate on internet anyway." LOL! Losers always say they're not mad and they don't care if they win. If you don't care why'd you bring up the issue of winning in the first place? You tried to show off your camera "knowledge" by getting snippy and condescending with me but got back-slammed when I caught you contradicting yourself. You then tried backpedaling but I bitch-slapped you with your own words and logic. You lost, you're embarrassed and don't know what to do so now you stomp your feet and pout saying you don't care to win this Internet debate anyway and you hate Muricans... bew hew sniff sniff. Wuss!

I grew up in america, and even I can tell this guy's a "poofter", as I'm fairly certain you'll get that lingo and this is clean enough to not get me into any trouble. Frankly I find it a bit lacking in "gray matter" as you so eloquently put it to assume everyone in a certain location is stupid, yeah, most here are, not denying that, the way these morons gobble up apple products like brainless sheep, I barely count myself among their numbers. I get this guy is being a complete jerk off, but you make yourself look just as stupid making claims like that, that are easily kicked aside. As for Mr."Winning" you sir, are the true loser because you just HAVE to make that microscopic member in your pants feel bigger because you simply are an inadequate in every sense of the word.

That will need a bigger sensor, hence a bigger sensor to lens distance.

They haven't made a bigger smartphone sensor... Theres no mobile sensor afaik with 2.0um and 12MP. And if there is it'll be quite big and people would really complain about the camera hump. Though there has been a Toshiba 1/2" 12Mp sensor with 1.75um pixels but its dissapeared off the website but you can see it here.http://web.archive.org/web/20150518103501/http://toshiba.semicon-storage.com/info/lookup.jsp?pid=T8ES7®ion=ncsa&lang=en_us No idea why it was taken down, would be killer If HTC had snagged it for their phone. And iPhones camera wasnt 12mp so...

5 mpix with 1.75µm possible. 12 mpix with 2.0µm much harder :)

Google "OV13880" and go to the unifore.net link.

That's clearly a typo. A 1/2.4" sensor with 13 MP will have about 1.4 micron pixels, not 4 micron. I guess they missed the 1. For example, Nexus 6P has a 1/2.3" sensor, which is bigger than 1/2.4", it also has less number of pixels. There is no way the omnivision can have bigger pixels than the IMX377 on Nexus 6P. Google "OV13880 sensor pixel pitch" and go to PA article.
