Leaked Sony Xperia Z4 chassis suggests an even thinner device without a microSD slot

Back in November, we were tipped with a bunch of snaps supposedly showing us the LCD touch digitizer (images below) of the still mysterious Xperia Z4, which Sony has obviously pushed back, going against its policy of biannual flagship releases. Ever since then, we've been keeping track of the source that produced the meaty images, FutureSupplier, and our patience and persistence seems to have paid off, for we're now treated to a bunch of photos apparently showing us the Xperia Z4's chassis...

Yeah I wish it wont. They're unifying their product lines, streamlining it.

My thoughts exactly as it looks like the flap is big enough for both

Ah, someone with some sense. That's what I am thinking. The SIM tray looks wider on the Z4. Certainly wide enough to fit both a SIM card and microSD.

Phonearena post a lot of clickbait and flameware articles. Nothing new here.

There is no chance, that the Z4 won't be waterproof. Seriously, it's pretty obvious. The Z4 tablet and M4 aqua are. It goes without saying. They are basing this assumption on the open micro USB port, which both the M4 and Z4 tablet have, while retaining waterproofing.

I highly doubt they are removing waterproofing. Really hope they keep microSD though.

I like what I see, but the Z3 is still too expensive, in the Iphone regions, which is not justified by its specs anymore. Also the news about selling the Mobile division doesn't help the Z4's case. btw: BI-annual vs. SEMI-annual :)

FYI, Sony is NOT selling its mobile division :-)

As said, Sony has switched to a coating (instead of flap) to protect the USB port from short-circuiting, as witnessed by the Z4 tablet and new M4 Aqua. Of course the Z4 phone will be waterproof/resistant.

looking and the pictures here are my assumptions: - although the micro usb port is exposed, i believe the phone is waterproof but as we saw with M4 aqua. also the placement of the port at the bottom of the handset is great. - there is no flap on the right side of the device (i believe that's the reason for assuming there is no micro sd slot) but the flap on the left side of the z4 is bigger than that of the z3, which leads me to assume the the micro sd slot has moved to the left side (keep in mind that the micro usb port has moved from the left side to the bottom) i think the z4 will be an awesome phone. i was expecting a more drastic change design wise, but i already find the z3 a gorgeous phone and the z4 seems to just be an evolution and further fine tuning of the z3 design.

The lack of dock connector pins suggests wireless charging too

Hope so, but they might rely on microUSB docks instead, now that the port is at the bottom.

Thank freaking goodness, someone with working eyes noticed! Everyone's moaning at the possible loss of the MicroSD card slot but didn't bother to look at the bigger flap!

The HTC Desire Eye doesn't have flaps either and that's waterproof....just saying.

don't you think that sony removed that covers in a waterproof phone? I know they'll do some thing with the battery life , they always say 2 days battery life for their prosucts , but looks like it is the time to say good bye to micro SDs

In my first line . I mean that sony is now removing that covers but they are still waterproof . I hope that single cover on that side is for micro sd and sim slot !

I hope they won't ditch the SD card slot. But I can definitely say that the Z4 will be waterproof. No more bullshit please.

Fake. Sony's unique feature is the waterproofing. Are they copying samsung's s6?, becasue of no sd card slot? All Z series has waterproofing and sd card slot, so it is impossible to happen

Yes!!! That's what Sony needs to compete with Apple and with the new Galaxy S6. Only a small fraction of users really need waterproofing or a microsd slot. And flaps are just a nuisance for most users. Way to go, Sony! Just make a sleek, beautiful phone with premium materials, good screen and camera and a bigger battery than the iphone and gs6.

What is it with you people and claiming "only a small minority of people need waterproofing and mDS"? I guess you have never used your phone while walking to your car in the rain? Among many other circumstances. Give me water-resistance any day over this apple wannabe BS. Damn.

Pure speculation by PA, if you look closer at the flap, it's noticeably longer than the Z3. Logic would say that's a double slot for SIM and SD.

I had most of the Galaxy phones until I changed to the Z2 last year. I was thinking about the S6 Edge as a replacement, but a lack of SD card ruled it out. Fingers crossed the Z4 does have a SD slot..

microUSB port without using a flap THANK GOODNESS, when I have had Sony Xperia phone I hated the usb flap, if the xperia's had wireless charging then flaps are ok.
