LG's first UMTS global roaming phone approved by the FCC (LG U8380)

FCC has just approved what seems to be the first LG phone which supports European UMTS (2100 MHz) and plus tri-band GSM operation (900/1800/1900 MHz). In plan English, the device can work as GSM phone in the US and Europe/Asia and as 3G UMTS in Europe only. All the current LG's U series phones were only supporting UMTS/European GSM. The U8380 is expected to be available from the Italian carrier “3”. The main specification of the phone are:

  • dual color displays

  • built-in 1.3 megapixels camera with video capture

  • GPRS / CSD / UMTS high-speed data

  • Java support

  • WAP Internet browser

  • MP3 player

  • Voice recording and dialing

  • Video calling
