LG hints it is not working on a Nexus 5, done with stock Androids
UPDATED: LG was quick to issue a statement that the words of its European VP has been taken out of context: “What Mr. Won Kim said is that we are not currently working on a Nexus 5, which is true. But that doesn’t mean we would turn down the opportunity.” There you have it.

"The Nexus 4 was a great success despite the production problems for us and Google. However we do not need such a marketing success again." These are the exact words of LG's European VP for mobile during an interview.

He said they have great relationship with Google, but releasing phones with stock Android, like Samsung did with the S4 at Google I/O, has no value for the company, as it needs to set itself apart through its own skin and other means.

Well, there go the rumors about a Nexus 5 made by LG, making the situation with Google's phone this year even more mysterious than it was before, after we learned it might have gone back to the drawing board with Motorola on the X phone

Now the one rumor left standing is what a tipster sent us for a Nexus 5 with a great camera on the back, but who and when will be eventually making it, remains shrouded in mystery for now. Our tipster claimed that the camera module will feature a "triple camera sensor thing" with Nikon branding, which raised all sorts of questions for us, and we can't wait to verify their last claim: "camera is selling point, testing module now is better than everything else."

Somehow... I actually find HTC the right company to produce the next Nexus device. Stop it right there with the fanboyism because it's not the reason why! :) The only reason I find HTC appropriate for the job is the fact that HTC is going to the exact same way that Google wants it's Nexus products to be: NO REMOVABLE BATTERY NO MICRO SD CARD SLOT NICE UNIBODY DESIGNS Other than that, any company is welcome to make a Nexus device. I'll be glad to see some new company doing that. Samsung did it twice, HTC and LG once and I'm talking only about smartphones, of course. It'll be nice to see Motorola, for example, to make a new one.

Hope so. Lets see. I think Motorola X will be next Nexus

Haha, look at the staged chattery, so obviously a controlled leak. I'd LOVE an affordable cameraphone, willing to pay an extra to the Nexus 4 price.

There's something really funny about the conversation. Check out the previous article about the nexus phone and you'll see Vic Gundotra commented similarly all the time, something about the 'insanely good camera' and 'just you wait and see'. And there's only two of them doing the chatting, always.

Which is promising that these are early ads for an affordable cameraphone. For me phone HW passed the level of performance to care about the extra benchmark scores, it's how they deal with drainage and how good is the camera. The S4 is quite good but OIS, higher MP count for 808-like lossless zooming, low-light performance, there's room for improvement.

544MP2? Why?

The exynos 5 gpu is only 3 cores. a 16 core power vr gpu would be 533% faster than the gpu in the exynos 5.

MPx = x cores Exynos 5410's GPU is PowerVR SGX544MP3 and SGX5xx supports 8 cores in maximum (theorectically), but normally only 4 cores. "8 cores GPU" advertisement was innitially a scam from Allwinner (A31 SoC), following by Rockchip 3188 and MTK6589. All of them are SGX544MP2

Rigth for most. But MTK6589 uses SGX544MP (or MP1 if you prefer). So as much they can claim 4 cores (SIMDs). For the record: each SGX544 core has 4 SIMDs So the Exynos 5410's PowerVR SGX544MP3 would have 12 of them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIMD

You don't have a clue of SoCs, do you? 1) Power Vr SGX544MP2 is 2 cores as hung2900 said 2) BayTrail uses Intel Gen 7, not PowerVr (the same they use in Intel HD Graphics 4000/3000/2500) 3) BayTrail most likely won't have hyperthreading as it has already 4 cores.

Silvermont baytrail has no confirmed gpu, the atoms use power vr that is all thats confirmed. You have no clue what your talking about. Silvernont baytrails are based on atom phone cpus but they also have 4 cores they are not based of the desktop chips. Change is coming later this year you will see headlines everywhere about intel making a15 look like a joke and then the slow death of arm begins. Next stop for intel on phones is 15nm too, arm will be lucky to have mass produced chips on 20nm by the end of 2014. Intel at its current rate will have better battery life than arm on their next series in mobile chips.

Intel has yet to confirm, but there was a leak about Atoms using Geng 7 quite some time ago. It's everything but officially confirmed:http://www.mobilegeeks.com/leaked-intel-atom-tablet-roadmap-bay-trail-t-valley-view-t-detailed/ For the rest: we'll see when it comes. TSMC is supposed to move to 20nm this year alreay. So the lead Intel has may prove itself short. I have little doubts that Silvermont will be more powerful than A15, but we can confirm that when it comes. Talking abot it now just shows foolishness. And from Anandtech What we know about Baytrail is that it will be a quad-core implementation of Silvermont paired with Intel’s own Gen 7 graphics.

It seems possible, except the price. For that money, it will be literally fly off the shelves. And which manufacturer would dare create such a beast of a phone at that price ?

Yeah nexus 4 was a great success.. i wonder who's making the next nexus? Samsung, HTC,LG they all made nexus devices i think its time for Sony to make one they deserve a chance... either way looking forward to see next nexus with android 5.0 pretty sure it will be one of the top devices of the year

I hope the next Nexus will come from Sony or at least Samsung. The LG name made me hesitant on the Nexus 4... No offence but I've seen people complaining about the build quality :P

What issues are there with the build quality, because I have one and have come across none so far? Also I think Sony or Motorola deserve a chance as both companies have been sticking to Google's design language with the on screen keys etc!

There a few "unlucky" people that got a faulty one according to this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2048027 As of other OEMs, I really hope Sony gets the next one, I'd love to see Motorola too but unfortunately they don't have a service center around here thus I'm rooting for Sony or any other OEMs, aside from LG, no offence.

You mean Samsung's build quality is better than LG's?

"but releasing phones with stock Android, like Samsung did with the S4 at Google I/O , has no value for the company, as it needs to set itself apart through its own skin and other means." Wait....their UI looks very similar to touchwiz...be it now or before the nature UX it looked and felt same...from icons to similarly themed wallpapers....

But anything other than stock Android is a downgrade, LG.

My wishlist for the next nexus is: Better Cameras: 8mpx is enough but better low-light shooting, image & video stabilization & 1080p front facing camera LTE Snapdragon 600 ( s4 pro is fast enough but 600 just for OpenGL ES 3.0 and less power consumption) 32GB storage variant 1080p Super IPS display I know that the current price cannot cover all these specs but i would pay 100-150$ more for this one

To me LG made the best N phone so far. I hope they are reconsidering...also shouldn't someone be working on one already?

I think this time NEXUS phone won't be coming only from one certain manufacturer. This time every flagship phone from each manufacturer could be the NEXUS phone. All they need to do is just run stock Android on their flagship phone, just like what SAMSUNG did with its 'Galaxy S4' and what will HTC do with its 'ONE' (rumored). Plus there will be a stock Android Motorola Phone (the X phone)... It's Just my thoughts... :)
