LG D821 visits FCC, puts the LG D820 in the Nexus 5 spotlight once again

0. phoneArena posted on 12 Sep 2013, 01:24

It all started with that picture taken at the time that the Kit Kat Android statue was unveiled at the Googleplex; the picture, frozen for all time, shows a mystery man snapping a picture using a camera sporting the new NEXUS style logo on the back of the phone. Right away, the buzz started getting louder that the phone in the picture was the Google Nexus 5...

Probably will be if made by LG, similar to the Optimus G and Nexus 4 scenario, at least I hope so, fingers crossed

I doubt it'll be close to the G2. I think LG learned it's lesson last time by having a Nexus device that was similar to the Optimus G they were trying to sell to consumers. More people picked the Nexus over the Optimus because it was basically the same thing except, in a way, it had it's benefits.

Rumors suggest (and we all know how I feel about rumors) it'll be more like a scaled down version of the Nexus 7 in terms of design. I remember looking at the documentation that went through the FCC and it was more than a few millimeters off from the dimensions of the G2. So, in short, don't place any bets on it being THAT similar to the G2.

Oh no, I'm sad that someone on here doesn't like me. I may not get as many upvotes anymore! ....

Nice way to make a counterargument. Instead of attacking my reasoning, let's attack me as a person because we all know how successful that is. Have you even made one intelligible comment on a phone? If you're going to talk big you might as well own up to it. In other words, if you think you have something better to say then say it.

Dr.Phil, LG still made lots of money off the Nexus4, as they received there cost plus profit. Google on the other hand made much less because of the next to nothing mark up on the phone. But Google's plan is not to make profit off the phone, but establish a brand of its own, bring attention to its OS with no overlays and make money with its app store also. We all have to agree that it is successing on all fronts and developing a loyal customer basis in the process, as most top shelf phones have offered a Google edition also.

I can say, now that the new iPhones are out, and I'm not impressed with the good, but small screen & minor updates, I'm waiting for the new Nexus5 to arrive. If its a version of the G2, similar screen, camera, battery, S600cpu? and similar pricing, its going to be my next phone! If not, then I will get the G2!

You obviously misread my comment. I did not say that LG didn't make money off of the Nexus 4. I know they made money off of the Nexus 4 because Google was paying them for every device they were building. It was Google that was taking the hit by not selling a phone for profit, not LG.

My point was that I don't think LG would want a Nexus device that is too similar to the G2 because it would take away from THEIR sales of the G2.

Yes, I do agree it may have a similar screen and similar specifications, but the overall design and feel of the device is going to be different.

LG G2 camera is in the center, while in the photo we can see that Nexus 5 camera is more on the side like it is on Sony Xperia Z1: http://img.talkandroid.com/uploads/2013/09/Nexus_5_Leak_compare_Xperia_Z1_Google_Android_KitKat_Video_02.png

But on the other hand we also can see something like the LG logo on the bottom:
