Jury rules in Google's favor, says Android's use of Oracle's Java APIs covered by fair use doctrine

A jury ruled this afternoon in favor of Google in a lawsuit filed by Oracle against the search giant. Oracle claimed that without permission, Google copied more than 37 Java APIs, and 11 lines of Java source code for the open source Android operating system. Oracle originally brought a similar suit against Google back in 2010. During that trial, Google said that APIs cannot receive copyright protection...

No, but it took time for BlackBerry to alienate the market. It's not something that happened overnight. BlackBerry also has their software and services to fall back on should they exit the hardware business (personally, I think they'd be better off doing so, even though I will miss their handsets should they do so). If Apple stays on the course that they're on, they too will alienate the market. Apple has other products, but the majority of their profits are iPhone dependent. That's a mistake. It seems like they realize this, as they are pushing other products/ideas to the forefront now, but I don't think it's happening fast enough.

You realise both Google and Oracle are American companies right? Plus if Google were paying some people off then why did they lose the 2nd trail?

For heavens sake, instead of suing, Oracle should be thanking Google for keeping Java alive.

Can't stand that dude. Florian Mueller is nothing more than a paid Microsoft and Apple shill. I've had many a argument with him over on Google+ a while back. He tends to block anyone who doesn't fall lock and step with his hate filled crap against Google.

He literally was paid by Oracle. He's a shill, no doubt.

Yea he has had it out for Google since day one. Or any OEM that is having success with Android. I could almost guarantee if Samsung had been popular with WP/Win Mo you wouldnt hear a peep from him in the Samsung vs Apple trials. Or he woulda been defending Samsung.

King in terms of size, loser in terms of profits.. not really my point however, and kinda pointless being it up...Java is cancer and google are sending small signals that they are realising just that.

I'm glad to hear this after them losing the EU case... Kinda figured they would lose that tho. The EU are a special bunch when it comes to anti competitive... Now comes the appeals.....which drags the case on for another few years...
