Jumping the gun much? 32GB Google Nexus 7 advertised in the U.K. with Android 4.2 on board

0. phoneArena posted on 04 Nov 2012, 02:20

U.K. electronics retailer HMV has started running newspaper ads for the 32GB Google Nexus 7 tablet which would be perfectly fine if not for the erroneous information in the ad that says that the tablet is running Android 4.2; the latest Android OS build has not yet been finalized...

Nexus 4 with 4.2 is noticeably worse than Optimus G (in benchmark, user experience - lag/slow loading time and battery usage)

Don't know why, but probably 4.2's fault, so it's better with 4.1 for Nexus 4 (in fact no big different in software)

I used to hate Apple fanboys until I recognized that every fanboy/antifanboy is the same, very ignorant.

I suprised that the comment of Kronic "Go facebook! I might buy this! Sounds like a cool idea!" that supporting Facebook phone, a truly opinion, received 48 dislikes vs 0 like (in fact it is 2 likes now). Have no idea why.

I predict that my post will get a lot of dislikes too lol

I actually said that because of the specs of the Facebook phone. I am not a fanboy of any company- I am a consumer who 'PREFERS' ios devices but likes android and WP too. I thought everyone was in favor of the Facebook phone.

Actually I was surprised too. I mean 48 dislikes that means a lot of people hate Facebook. I don't know may be they hate zuckerberg.

Can I ask where did you got that information from? I doubt Nexus 4 is any slower than Optimus G as they have pretty much the same hardware.
I have no doubts you´ll comment will get many dislikes, but it´s not due to fanboys. The issue is that you commented on something difficult to belive presenting no prove of it, so it looks like a complete biased and spiteful attack based on fanboyism.

It gets smoked by its twin. Both the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 have sub-optimal performance, given their hardware, and neither was best-in-class in performance testing.

The amount of thermal throttling, and the excessive heat generated by the Nexus 4 in Anandtech's performance review, seems to suggest the S4 Pro is a poor smartphone SoC. the Adreno 320 is uninspiring, the battery life is inadequate, and the Krait just suffers in comparison next to the A6/A6x and Exynos 5250. I had liquidated all of my extra phones to get ready to buy an N4, but now I am rethinking my position.

The N10 is just a dim, pretty screen in a cheap body. The iPad 3 and 4 destroy it in measurable metrics other than resolution.

There are many things that could explain the issues, and only half of what you say is really accurate.
It could be that the quad core S4 pro is having some issues with termal heating, as it was intended for tablets and not for smartphones. But Adrenos 320 is still one of the best GPUs you can find.

It´s normal that krait suffers compared to two chipsets that are less than 1 month in the market, but the differences are not that big, in fact in CPU the krait quad core is better than the Apple (and also in GPU for phones). ALL Anandtech test are actually web based, so they actually show more browser performance than CPU performance. Add to that that both versions of Anandtech and Endgadget seems to be using a non-final firmware build, so take those results with a pinch of salt. If the problem is the software (as it looks like): don´t worry, it will eventually be fixed.

iPad 3 has far worse metrics than the N10 both GPU and CPU wise, and the iPad 4 has better GPU but worse CPU, so don´t overreact that much.

Bottomline: wait at least for reviews of final units till taking any decission, those previews are not really telling the complete tale.

Ah! and as I was asking for some links I let you two of the tests trust more as they are not software related, GLbenchmark for GPU and Geekbench for CPU:

As you can see the APQ8064 in the Nexus 4 has excellent results in both of them, actually over any other chipset in the market.
The rest are software based and not half as realiable as they can be easily tweaked with.
EG: Windows phones and tablets have an outstanding result in SunSpider, but fare bad in all other tests.

You still haven't explain why the many benchmark tests, user experience and battery usage of Nexus 4 is worse than Optimus G with the same hardware (you can find some reviews around).

And the benchmark results on websites are BS, so don't use them as evidence.

On one side you say that benchmark results on websites are BS, then what are you based on to say that "Nexus 4 is worse than Optimus G (in benchmark, user experience - lag/slow loading time and battery usage)"?
What I was trying to say is that ALL the reviews I found to date had installed a non-final firmware inside, so most of the benchmarks are not relevant and you should not trust them till the real phones come out.
This guy probably explained it better than me:

In short: Quadrant and Antutu seems to not behave well with that version, it happened before that they gave lower numbers in an OS they were not built for (in ICS happened already)
Battery life can change a lot with final versions and depends on the site you read review is right now good or bad.
Browser base CPU benchmarks are irrelevant till final version is out as the browser is probably not optimized for the OS in the non-final firmware that the early reviews are based on.

Just wait for the phone to come out and you can decide yourself when the reviews are based on the final build. Right now it is far to early to decide about the performance of the phone as the reviews were don with a half-backed OS. Not very professional as they didn´t mention that enough, if you ask me.

I meant "benchmark rsults on websites" was the number you see when visit benchmark websites like GLBenchmark, Antutu, quadrant... they're not very reliable.

I dont care abt browser tests too coz they used BS Chrome v8 engine, very slow compared to AKOP browser.

Don't say benchmark tests are not reliable, when you the the huge gap, it tells the true story. Anw, i hope google will update the "final firmware" soon, but this time it's safe when keeping 4.1 on Nexus 7

Sorry but Engadget is barely a good source anymore since most people moved to" the verge" you can see how the same device gets anotherlookhttp://www.theverge.com/2012/11/2/3589280/google-nexus-4-review

The google website says that it has 4.2, So they must be shipping it with 4.2

Or is the google.com/nexus site wrong?
