Is Motorola working in a 5.9-inch Nexus, codenamed Shamu?

Ever since Google first announced its intentions to purchase Motorola, there have been rumors (aka hopes) that Motorola would eventually make a Nexus device. So far, that hasn't happened, but there is a chance that Motorola could contribute to the Nexus line before its sale to Lenovo officially goes through. It may even be working on the first Nexus phablet...

Looks like everything is pointing to an iphone 6 for me. All the androids I had interest in are killing it with their gigantic screens.

maximum screen size limit for a smartphone should be 5.5".

Why? Because YOU don't like anything larger? If you don't want a larger display, then don't buy one. Simple as that.

Why would anyone make a phone that only appeals to a small niche group?

In asia, big phone is selling like a hot cakes. If you ever went to Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philipine, you will see that a lot of teenager using phablet. A galaxy Mega size (5.8" - 6.3") is very popular. Especially among girl who can tuck in their phone in their purse. Big phablet is NOT niche. In asia, it's even have larger pie than smaller than 5.2" phone

I live in the US so I'm concerned about the US market.

the US is a bit late in following the screen size trend. Maybe because people really bought the apple one handed operation argument. But once apple sell the 4.7" and 5.5", phablet screen size will suddenly looks make sense.

The trends in Americans are different from Asian trends. There's no way Americans are going to considered 6" phone as practical. It's a niche market here.

That's what they said about a 4.3" screen 4 years ago. Phones like the original Ego and Droid X were considered huge, and no one would ever go bigger than that. Now a 4.3" screened phone is considered a "mini". Give it time.

Just wait until Apple unleashes its phablet. It will be considered very practical...

Is playing high end games really comfortable on a 5 inch or even smaller screen? I mean do such screens even do justice to modern mobile games where the graphics form an integral part of the overall game play & experience? Of course, you can always grab a tablet for a larger screen experience. Then what's the point of having all that power inside a 5 inch phone when you can't even enjoy the one thing that will utilize it's power. People who have used a 5.5 inch or bigger phone can never go back to a smaller one.

AGREE!!!! and that's why iphone user who have went to android can't turn back. Because in 2014 using a 4" screen is like using a bb with 2" screen in 2007.

Sadly, my joke was either found to be unfunny or was just too subtle. I am sad.

Probably not. LG would be making that again cause that way they can cover production problems and customer services... They dont decide which company is churning the most beautiful in terms of design or has the highest performance results. They see how much it's costing them. That's probably why Google went from HTC (the starting Android phones) to Samsung and then LG. Motorola is homeground to them still. They have all the patents they need, they have design teams and seeing that Lenovo still hasn't acquired it completely, it seems that the Chinese may not after all or maybe Google will make a partnership with Lenovo for production... Again they get cut the production cost very much...

I don't think that we should go back to previous nexus manufacture for until every other major manufacture has had their see you next round HTC, Samsung, and LG!

I don't know how I feel about this... A Nexus device is pure Android... and the things I love most about my Moto X is the stuff that Motorola added in addition to the nearly pure android experience. I'm sure Shamu will be a quality device, but it'll be missing the quality supplemental software developed by Motorola.

Too big for a phone. 5.2 is the biggest size.

They definitely need two sizes. A phablet automatically takes 90% of women out of the market with their small hands. 5.2 in. with very small bezels is a nice compromise for just about every person out there.

On the contrary, woman in asia use BIGGER phone than man. The reason is they could easily tuck in the phone in purse, while man need to put it on the pocket. Most men like 5.2" - 5.7" inch (that's why galaxy note didn't grow up on size), but woman like the phone up to 6.3" (Xperia Z ultra).
