In India, Motorola replaces Nokia as the fourth largest smartphone brand

A report from researcher Canalys reveals that in India, Motorola is gaining momentum. At the end of June, the Lenovo subsidiary (assuming regulatory approval) was the fourth largest seller of smartphones in the country. In taking the fourth spot, Motorola leapfrogged over Nokia. The former shipped 955,650 smartphones in the three month period that ended in June, while the latter had 633,720 units in transit during the same time period...

Here's a brief list of major problems Microsoft has yet to address. Multitasking is sometimes inscrutable, in that you never know which apps will show up in the "currently running" list of apps. Email threading often doesn't work, especially with Gmail accounts. Lots of features, including Rooms (sort of a mobile, multimedia chat room) are Windows Phone exclusives, meaning they can only be accessed with Windows Phones--cool, but it's pretty unlikely all your friends have Windows Phones too. Speech recognition is lousy, nowhere near as good as Google's Android voice control or even Apple's Siri. There's no place to see notifications at all; if you get an alert on an app that you haven't pinned to your homescreen, you'd never know. Bing Maps doesn't have public transit directions, let alone bike directions. It's not easy to share photos to services like Twitter and Facebook; Android and iOS let you do that in one touch, but not Windows Phone.

Arte, I think that everyone here on PA knows I'm more of a BlackBerry fan than any other platform here, but there are a few things that you typed that are not true: "It's not easy to share photos to services like Twitter and Facebook; Android and iOS let you do that in one touch, but not Windows Phone." This is not true. If you want to share a photo with one touch on Windows Phone, all you have to do is tap the three dots at the bottom of the picture and you get the option to share the pic with a number of social networks you have set up, including Facebook and Twitter. "There's no place to see notifications at all; if you get an alert on an app that you haven't pinned to your homescreen you'd never know." Doesn't the notification center in WP8.1 take care of this? Also, you can set up which apps notify you on the the lock screen in the "settings", even if you don't have the app pinned to your home screen. "Speech recognition is lousy, nowhere near as good as Google's Android voice control or even Apple's Siri." Doesn't Cortana replace voice control on WP? Or, can't you use Cortana in place of voice control on WP? Isn't Cortana as good or better than Siri and Android voice/Google Now? The rest of your points I more or less agree with you on, although Bing Maps will direct you to a number of apps like HERE transit on Lumia and other Windows Phones. You can also block most apps from running that you don't want running in the background, although there are some you may not be able to block. You will have to close them completely via the "x" that appears after a long press of the back arrow. Email threading works with Outlook on WP, but not Gmail. Gmail is a pain to use on WP.

bing maps is crap. google maps is the best. In bing maps, you can search only for address, not landmarks.. e.g (malls, train stations, etc.) they need to update it, bing map is more simple than google map, but they lack the important aspect of direction! wp is more simple than android, but the important or critical features are missing.... they are really genius... -.-

"Bing maps is crap. Google maps is the best". So who asked for your opinion? Arte and I were discussing FACTS, not OPINION. Anyway, HERE maps, which is on all WP can do search all of those things. Yes, WP is easier to use than Android. That's the POINT, Isn't it? Also, WP 8.1 addresses a lot of those "critical" or "important " features that are missing. Try using the OS before making statements like the ones you've just made.

i'm just talking about bing maps. not the whole os. -.- i dunno about 8.1 yet, so i can't argue with that.

You mentioned "WP" and "Android". Seems like the "whole OS" to me.

He has a point? No, you were COMPLETELY wrong on all accounts. Not a single of your points was actually valid. How's arguing with imaginary facts working for you?

Xiaomi can easily beat every heck of oem in india, but they aren't selling their devices properly. The exclusive deal with flipkart is fine, that way it will be out of market decision for price, but the 10000 batch thing is frustrating many buyers who have to go for moto n mmx. Also they are not selling redmi note and 1s even after announcement. If these phones are avail and in stock in xiaomi shop, why they are out of stock in India. Hate this 5 second sell out thing.

rahul, that's the way xiaomi hype their phone. If they provide more phone than demand, people will wait to buy the phone when they need one. But with flash sell strategy, people feel they have to buy it when they have a chance. With this strategy XiaoMi can make sure that the next one, even if it's 50,000 batch or 100,000 batch, will sell in a minute.
